The Chewy team is hiring a Transportation Operations Manager! This role is within the Field Transportation team and will report to the AD, Regional Transportation. This individual will lead Chewy hourly associates in the Transportation Coordinator and Switcher Driver roles, serving as Transportation liaison to FC management, and supporting different lines of business. You will be responsible for meeting and exceeding the established safety, quality, efficiency, labor, and engagement objectives. You will be successful in this role because you are passionate about training, guiding, and supporting your team and recognize their effort and achievements. You also understand how to find, analyze, and apply data in all your decision making.
What you will do:
- Operate as an owner for all transportation operations across all shifts across at least one FC and supporting at least two different Chewy business units (Retail, Pharmacy, CFS, Frozen) either locally or remotely
- Provide operational communication updates across key operational collaborator groups within the FC, with carriers, and with corporate support teams
- Accountable for ensuring resourcing of at least one building. Manage the hiring, training, implementing changes to processes, scheduling, and team member performance management of Transportation Coordinators (TCs) and Switcher Drivers to meet FC operational needs.
- Administer the safety, training, auditing, equipment readiness, and certification of the Switcher Program. Manage vendor for day-to-day activities, unit hours reporting, and scheduling of preventive maintenance.
- Addresses progress and issues prior to advancing to leadership.
- Actively develop and promote open lines of communication to maintain and develop positive employee relations, encourage employee involvement in the process, and recognize employees for their accomplishment and ideas
- Drive standards through the day by motivating, guiding, and holding Team Members accountable to known standards and positive reinforcement of the appropriate behavior
- Handle employee questions, concerns, and follow up with the intent to maintain a positive work environment and earn trust
- Review, communicate and remediate performance on KPI's within the building, within Chewy, and with carrier partners (small parcel and truckload) leading with data to support recommendations
- Ensure daily and weekly alignment and readiness with carrier partners to support execution evaluating and communicating daily capacity needs to ensure on time delivery to our customer
- Review and approve weekly employee timesheets and vendor invoices
- Be able to dive deep within a process and drive process improvements through associate feedback, analyzing data, and up channeling changes to obtain departmental goals
- Manage and implement network improvements on an on-going basis across multiple cross functional customer groups that impact organization level operating plans.
- Step in as Regional leader to cover all Associate Director responsibilities as required for coverage
- Mentor, train and develop Area Managers for career progression and learning!
What you will need:
- 5+ years' supervisory experience preferably in a logistics, warehouse, or distribution center environment (degree preferred)
- At least 4 years of shown experience of positively running large groups of hourly employees
- Excellent interpersonal skills, oral and written communication skills, and strong attention to detail
- Capable in Excel, Word, Outlook, Warehouse Management System (WMS), and Yard Management System (YMS). Tableau and SQL knowledge preferred
- Ability to work a flexible schedule to include nights, weekends, and holidays as business needs dictate
- Passion for working in a start-up environment with high level of ambiguity and change
- Customer service obsession, with desire to go above and beyond to satisfy customer needs
- Effective communicator and leader for employees, direct reports, cross-functional teams and executive leadership
- Shown ability to quickly adapt and drive the right results using data
- Strong project management and continuous improvement skills
- Position may require some travel (< 10%)
