Brooks Internship Program:
Brooks Running hosts summer internships at our Seattle HQ offices to provide hands-on, meaningful work experience to further enhance your education and professional aptitude. Our interns gain exposure to real work, and projects while working side by side with Brooks employees and leadership. If chosen for this role, you will join a cohort of interns at Brooks and embark on a summer of learning, professional development, and exposure to the Brooks brand and culture.

This Opportunity:
Our Transportation Team is seeking a Transportation Intern to work at our Seattle HQ offices. This position will work closely with the Transportation team, which is responsible for building and managing a global transportation network that delivers the required capacity and drives aggressive lead times at optimal costs. The team also works closely with Supply and Demand Planning, Sourcing, Distribution and Runner Experience teams.
Through this opportunity you will help Transportation create metrics, analyze shipment history data and engage in root cause analysis to support optimizing transportation segments originating from the factories in Asia to our DCs in North America, UK and EMEA.
You will gain exposure to Ocean and Air Carriers, Overseas Order Management Providers, Port of Entry Transload Operators, Drayage providers and inland transportation providers via truck and rail by supporting Transportation Network Operations with daily operational tasks and participation in optimization initiatives.
You will research and provide recommendations on improved utilization of ocean containers, reduction in over, shorts and damages (OS&D) of manufacturing orders, process changes that reduce lead times, improve order shipment visibility and overall transportation network consistency.
You will shadow and work under the mentorship of the Transportation Network Operations Manager and complete work with the goal of gaining experience managing transportation network operations.
Your Impact (Responsibilities):
- Learn Transportation performance metrics and how to analyze data to proactively improve network and carrier performance.
- Actively engage in transportation operations gaining insights into how to proactively optimize routings, forecast capacity and drive consistency to support global network growth.
- Engage cross-functional Supply Chain Teams, Sales and Customer Service to gain experience and knowledge of Transportation’s role in proactively and positively impacting the success of their respective areas.
- Receive mentorship from Supply and Demand Planning, Sourcing, Distribution and Runner Experience to understand their roles and impact to the broader department and/or business.
- Gain industry and organizational knowledge through daily business interactions and job assignments.
- Gain hands-on experience in Network Operations working full time, with an outcome of understanding the drivers of costs, lead time and capacity.
- Flex your operational and analytical understanding while also optimizing, improving, and driving quality to solve a problem or improve an existing process.
- Experience on-the-job training through real work projects/situations, showcasing how your academic experience translates to the professional environment.
- Learn directly from experienced co-workers, managers and leaders with specialized experience and technical knowledge across numerous professional fields.
- Build connections with a network of professionals, managers, and leaders.
- Gain experience in Transportation Network Optimization
- Provide analytical support to inform leadership decision-making on projects related to Transportation, Distribution, Trade Compliance and other Supply Chain organizations.
- Create and update relevant SOPs (Standard Operating Procedure) for designated projects or processes.
- Participate in weekly team meetings and other group meetings.
- Interact with various business partners that span across Brooks and present the results of your project at the end of your internship.
Project:
- As a part of your experience as an intern at Brooks, you will have the opportunity to complete a project under the support and supervision of your manager. Details of your project will be finalized once you arrive at Brooks based on your interests, and the needs of the business. You will present your work and findings to leadership at Brooks at the end of your internship, to hone in on your research, recommendation, and presentation skills.
- A high-level project outline for this internship opportunity is as follows:
- As a Transportation Intern, you will work side by side with a team of specialists, analysts, carrier managers and process excellence leaders. This team will be there to support you in learning through real shipping situations that impact Brooks global transportation network. We will also give you the helm, at times, to support growing your analytical and decision-making skills and receiving real time feedback from transportation’s internal customers. By the end of your internship, we want to learn from you as well, by sharing your findings of your assigned intern project.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Supply Chain, Transportation, Logistics or a related field
- Willing to commit to the intern position for three months onsite in Seattle, WA
- Willingness to learn and gain hands-on experience.
- Able to commit to up to 40 hours a week to be physically present at HQ
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, demonstrating effective listening through concise, clear verbal and written communication.
- Experience with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Knowledge of Database Query Tools such as Snowflake, Tableau, and others. Ability to write SQL queries a plus.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Detail-oriented with an emphasis on quality work products.
- Must be able to collaborate in a team-oriented environment.
