Business lead for the digital transformation of New Zealand's largest infrastructure programme

We're delivering some of the most significant transport investments in New Zealand. As our Transformation Lead, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping how Infrastructure Development & Delivery uses data, digital tools and technology to improve project performance, decision-making and delivery outcomes across the national capital programme.  

As the business lead for this digital transformation of NZTA’s capital delivery business, you will act as the client, setting the vision, direction and priorities for NZTA’s Digital Team to deliver alongside the business. You will work closely with NZTA’s Digital Team, delivery leaders and partners to turn business needs into practical digital solutions that improve how we plan, deliver and manage our capital programme.

As our Transformation Lead, you will lead the internal client direction for digital and data enablement across the transformation roadmap for Infrastructure Development & Delivery. You will set clear capability horizons that ensure the business evolves over time. Working with NZTA’s Digital Team, you will help ensure there is a clear roadmap for digital enablement, supported by a clear business improvement plan, for the transformation of NZTA’s transport delivery function. The role defines the business outcomes and capability shifts required, working with digital specialists and delivery teams to turn those priorities into practical, measurable change. 

This is not the Digital Team role in the transformation. It is the business leadership role that makes sure the digital transformation is grounded in delivery needs, aligned across teams and focused on the outcomes that matter. It is about being the business lead who can bring people together, make sense of complexity, align priorities and keep the transformation moving. 

You will also work across the enterprise to support the delivery of a connected, aligned NZTA-wide digital roadmap. A key focus will be ensuring project information, asset management needs and broader organisational digital priorities are aligned. 

Working closely with senior leaders, digital specialists, project teams and industry partners, you will influence investment decisions, support technology adoption and make sure digital initiatives deliver clear business value.

You will be a strategic and commercially minded business leader who understands how digital tools, data and better ways of working can improve complex infrastructure and project delivery environments. 

To be successful in this role, you'll bring: 

• Proven experience leading business transformation, with a strong focus on embedding change into the day-to-day business 

• Confidence using digital tools, data, reporting and insights to improve performance and decision-making 

• Experience shaping and embedding digital or technology-enabled change in complex, multi-stakeholder environments 

• Strong understanding of infrastructure, construction, project delivery or asset-intensive industries, ideally in a transport context  

• The ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive progress without direct authority 

• A collaborative style and the ability to build alignment across multidisciplinary and matrixed teams 

• The ability to thrive in complexity and uncertainty, creating clarity, focus, momentum and delivery 

• Commercial acumen and experience working with suppliers, technology partners and vendors 

• A strong focus on digital improvement, continuous improvement and lifting organisational capability 

• Clear communication skills, including the ability to translate technical concepts into practical business outcomes
