POSITION SUMMARY 

The Illinois Refining Division in Robinson, IL, is seeking a Training Specialist to coordinate, develop, deliver, and support training activities across all departments at the Marathon Robinson Refinery. This role will conduct training for Robinson Refinery personnel in support of regulatory compliance and continuous improvement, using assessment tools to ensure that knowledge and skill requirements are effectively transferred in alignment with Refining Standard Practices (RSP), including RSP-1305. The position will report directly to the site’s Environmental, Safety, & Security (ES&S) Director.   
 
This position will be based in Robinson, IL and is eligible for relocation. 

 
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Coordinate training programs at the facility by working with department representatives, corporate training groups, and external vendors as needed to schedule and provide quality training classes ensuring site needs and regulatory requirements are met. 

  • Coordinate and schedule training programs at the refinery, ensuring the delivery of high-quality classes that meet customer requests and comply with regulatory and corporate requirements, specifically RSP-1305 and other associated RSPs.  

  • Partner with the LMS Administrator to input and audit training records within MPC’s Learning Management System. 

  • Review and update training content at required intervals to ensure accuracy and relevance. 

  • Develop and implement training programs, lesson plans, and testing standards to enhance employee performance and development. 

  • Apply instructional design principles to develop and refine existing training programs and classroom experiences.  

  • Deliver training through various methods, including instructor-led sessions and e-learning. 

  • Assess the effectiveness of training programs from the learner’s perspective, striving to foster a culture of continuous learning within the organization. 

  • Prepare and participate in orientation programs for new employees.  

  • Evaluate, verify, and coordinate the annual refresher training process.  

  • Develop and manage the site training budget. 

  • Collaborates with Refining Training and Development to implement refining wide training programs and best practices.    

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE 

Minimum (Required) Qualifications 

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent 

  • 2 years of industry or adult education experience 

  • Valid driver’s license 

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time indefinite basis without the need for employment visa sponsorship now or in the future. 

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • 5 years of industry or adult education experience 

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in related field 

  • Experience instructing and facilitating classroom training 

  • Experience in creating a positive learning environment for adult learners to support and enhance training success. 

  • The ability to adopt a variety of active learning strategies that facilitate adult learning and that are inclusive of all backgrounds and learning styles. 

 

 

SKILLS: 

  • Strong computer proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of products. 

  • Ability to critically analyze, organize, plan, schedule, and execute multiple projects that engage a diverse workforce in active learning.  

  • Strong communication and organizational skills, technical expertise, self-motivation, a commitment to continuous learnings (with a focus on media arts), and the ability to work with and inspire others.
