With over 150 colleagues across the Midlands, we're one of the region's fastest-growing independent firms. We combine the supportive, close-knit culture of an independent practice with the expertise and resources of a larger multidisciplinary firm.

Our people are central to our success. We invest in development, encourage new ideas and provide opportunities to build long-term careers as Ballards continues to grow.

The Opportunity

We're looking for an ambitious Trainee Accounts Associate to join our Accounts team across Worcester and Droitwich.

This opportunity is open to graduates, including those with no previous accountancy practice experience. Whether you're a recent graduate looking to begin your accountancy career or already have some relevant finance or practice experience, we'll support you in developing your technical knowledge while working towards the ACA qualification.

You'll work alongside experienced managers on real client assignments, gaining practical experience across accounts preparation, corporation tax, personal tax, bookkeeping and VAT.

As your knowledge and confidence develop, you'll take on greater responsibility, build client relationships and gain broader commercial experience.

Please note: this role is based across both our Worcester and Droitwich offices. You will be expected to work regularly from both locations, with the exact split determined by team, client and training requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare year-end accounts and supporting working papers for manager review
  • Assist with corporation tax computations and returns
  • Support personal tax work where required
  • Assist with bookkeeping and VAT return preparation
  • Support managers with the delivery of client compliance work
  • Build effective relationships with colleagues and clients
  • Work collaboratively across our Worcester and Droitwich teams
  • Gain exposure to other areas of the firm where opportunities arise, including Audit and Private Client
  • Study towards the ACA qualification and apply your learning to practical client work

About You

We're looking for potential, enthusiasm and a genuine commitment to building a career in accountancy.

You will ideally have:

  • A degree or equivalent, ideally 2:1 or above
  • A genuine interest in accounting, tax and business
  • Strong numeracy and attention to detail
  • Good organisational and communication skills
  • A collaborative and professional approach
  • The ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines
  • A willingness to learn, ask questions and respond positively to feedback
  • The ability to travel between and work from both Worcester and Droitwich

Previous accountancy practice experience is not required. Relevant placements, internships or finance experience are welcome but not essential.

Why Ballards?

  • Supported ACA training and professional development
  • Broad experience across accounts, tax, bookkeeping and VAT
  • Exposure to a varied client base
  • A supportive, close-knit team
  • Access to experienced managers, directors and partners
  • Opportunities to gain experience across different areas of the firm
  • A collaborative, people-first culture
  • Genuine long-term career progression
  • Competitive salary and benefits package
  • Hybrid working

If you're looking to start your accountancy career with a growing independent firm where you'll gain meaningful experience, be supported through your professional qualification and have the opportunity to progress, we'd love to hear from you.
