We are seeking a skilled and motivated engineer to lead the design, development, testing, and documentation of an integrated Trailer Control Module (TCM) for automotive applications. This module will be responsible for controlling trailer braking and lighting systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards and internal requirements. The successful candidate will also be tasked with drafting and maintaining a technical standard for the TCM.
Key Responsibilities:
Design & Development:
- Architect and implement hardware and software solutions for a trailer control module that manages both braking and lighting functions.
- Integrate the TCM with vehicle CAN networks and ensure compatibility with various trailer configurations.
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulations (e.g., ECE R48, FMVSS, SAE, and internal standards).
Testing & Validation:
- Develop and execute test plans for module functionality, reliability, and safety, including electrical and environmental testing.
- Diagnose and resolve issues related to trailer detection, lighting, and braking performance.
- Responsible for conducting on-vehicle calibration testing of the Trailer Tow Module (TTM) to ensure optimal integration and performance with vehicle systems.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to validate module performance in real-world scenarios.
Documentation & Standardization:
- Create and maintain comprehensive documentation, including design specifications, test procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
- Draft and update a technical standard for the TCM, covering design, testing, and integration requirements.
- Ensure documentation is clear, accessible, and compliant with internal and external audit requirements.
Collaboration:
- Work closely with suppliers, manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure seamless integration and production readiness.
- Support warranty analysis and root cause investigations for field issues related to trailer control modules.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Mechanical, Software, or Systems Engineering or related field
- A minimum of 8 years of automotive experience
- A minimum of 3 years in Trailer, braking, and lighting systems (specifically developing these systems)
- Knowledge of regulatory standards for trailer systems (ECE, FMVSS, SAE, etc.)
- Very positive attitude with the ability to facilitate with cross-functional experience
- Good mentoring and coaching skills with the ability to work directly with individuals and groups.
- Good communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to communicate technical content to a non-technical audience
- Willing to travel up to 20% away from the primary work location to support at the plant.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master of Science in Electrical, Mechanical, Software, or Systems Engineering or an equivalent from an ABET-accredited university
- 5 years Trailer, braking and lighting systems
- Experience with integrated trailer control modules (ITCM) or similar systems.
- Understanding of cybersecurity requirements for automotive modules.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional, fast-paced environment.
