We’re looking for experienced Trades Assistant to join our team in Darwin to work alongside our qualified tradespeople and support the Workshop. This is a Permanent, Monday to Friday role.
What you’ll be doing
As a Trades Assistant at Hastings Deering, you will:
- Deliver quality service – Support tradespersons in both the Track Shop and Component Shop, assisting with repairs, maintenance, and general workshop tasks.
- Follow the right procedures – research and consult the correct and latest service information systems for specific procedures, instructions and specifications.
- Do it once, do it right – take every step to ensure workmanship is fault-free ensuring quality in the finished product.
- Machine Operations – Hold the relevant qualifications to Operate overhead cranes and forklifts.
- Keep learning – Work alongside experienced technicians and continually build your skills and knowledge across workshop processes.
- Support the track shop – Work with the team to support the ongoing work we have in our track shop

What you’ll need:
A successful teammate will have experience in:
- Experience that counts – Previous experience in a similar TA role
- Strong communicator – excellent communication skills with a genuine customer focus.
- Licenses a plus – overhead crane and forklift tickets are desirable (training opportunities may be available).
- Organised and efficient – strong time management skills to keep jobs on track.
- Team player – able to work well with others as well as independently when required.
- Safety minded – committed to maintaining high workplace health and safety standards at all times.
