We’re looking for an experienced and commercially minded Trade Manager to join our team and play a key role in managing pricing, trade performance and customer relationships across our ocean freight network.

Job Description

As Trade Manager, you’ll take ownership of regional pricing for Neptune Pacific’s services, including tariffs, ancillary charges, special rates and freight rate requests. You’ll also manage a P&L budget, ensuring pricing decisions support both customer needs and business objectives.

Based in our Sausalito, CA office, you’ll work closely with colleagues across Commercial, Sales, Operations and regional teams, while building relationships with customers, suppliers and industry partners across the network.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Analyze market trends, trade lanes, customer requirements and competitor pricing to identify commercial opportunities.
  • Develop and recommend pricing strategies that maximize profitability and support growth.
  • Analyze service, trade sector and customer performance, including volume, revenue and contribution.
  • Manage accurate and competitive ocean freight quotations and pricing exceptions.
  • Negotiate freight rates and commercial terms with carriers and customers.
  • Monitor pricing performance and identify opportunities to improve margins and efficiency.
  • Maintain tariffs, rate databases, contracts and accessorial pricing, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Conduct freight manifest and pricing audits and provide guidance on regulatory and industry requirements.
  • Partner closely with the Commercial and Sales teams, providing market intelligence and pricing support.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers, suppliers, carriers and internal stakeholders.
  • Manage customer enquiries, pricing issues, disputes, contracts and follow-up activities.
  • Use CargoWise and CRM reporting to track quote activity, success rates and commercial performance.
  • Coordinate vessel schedule information and ensure accurate and timely communication across the business.
  • Contribute to projects and other commercial initiatives as required.

This role may involve collaboration across multiple locations and occasional additional hours to meet business requirements.

Qualifications

We’re looking for someone who combines commercial acumen with strong analytical and relationship management skills.

You’ll ideally have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Logistics, Supply Chain or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years’ experience in freight forwarding, logistics, supply chain, ocean freight or a related commercial environment.
  • Strong experience in data analysis, pricing and cost analysis.
  • Advanced or intermediate-to-advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Experience working with complex datasets and ERP systems.
  • Strong negotiation, problem-solving and commercial decision-making skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • An understanding of ocean freight markets, trade lanes, pricing and industry regulations.
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • A proactive, adaptable approach and the confidence to work with a diverse range of stakeholders.

Pay Range: $90,000 to $100,000 and may include a discretionary bonus.  Final compensation amount will be dependent on skills and experience.

Skills Required
