The Trade Compliance Specialist is responsible for the day-to-day oversight of transactional trade compliance for the enterprise. This role will ensure goods are properly exported, imported, and shipped in accordance with established corporate policies and procedures as well as US Customs Regulations and Export Administration Regulations (EAR).


Responsibilities/ Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Overall management of Import and Export transactions.
  • Analyze import documentation for completeness and compliance with applicable Customs requirements
  • Prepare import documents for Customs Broker.
  • Monitor and track performance of Customs Broker to SOP /Compliance KPI’s
  • Prepare necessary export documentation (SED, CI, P/L, Carnets etc.) ensuring compliance with US Government regulations as well as corporate policies.
  • Track and report status of all imports and exports to ensure smooth transactions and information back to the business. Provide Customs Broker with the necessary documentation as required.
  • Track and maintain records and reports of all imports.
  • Support functional groups such as Customer Service, Business Development, Operations, Sales Administration, and Shipping regarding export and import of materials and products.
  • Support Trade compliance Manager with investigations and audits
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills

  • Demonstrates understanding of US Commerce’s Export Administration Regulations (EAR), HTS, 232/301 Tariffs, and applicable exemptions/exceptions
  • Exhibits strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work on issues of diverse scope where analysis of situation or data requires evaluation of a variety of factors, including an understanding of current business trends
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Demonstrates strong computer skills and proficiency using MS Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); AES filing and AES reporting
  • Uses vision to think beyond the immediate situation, explore multiple potential paths, and adapt decision-making style based on the situational circumstances
  • Demonstrates the ability to develop and maintain internal and external trust, professional relationships
  • Experience working with ERP software and reporting

 


Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business or related discipline or equivalent combination of experience and education
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience with EAR, US Customs, HTS, Schedule B, etc.
  • Experience dealing with freight forwarders, customs brokers, supply chain, purchasing, and logistics with previous experience in creating and reviewing export/import documents
  • Experience working with steel commodities such as pipe, fittings, flanges, and valves
  • Customs Broker license preferred

Physical Demands

  • Ability to work in an office environment
  • Required to sit and stand for long periods; talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard (Frequent)

Special Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship required and ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense security clearance
  • Occasionally required to travel

Skills Required

  • Minimum five years of experience with EAR, US Customs, HTS, Schedule B, and related trade compliance requirements
  • Experience creating and reviewing import and export documents
  • Experience working with freight forwarders, customs brokers, supply chain, purchasing, and logistics
  • Experience working with steel commodities such as pipe, fittings, flanges, and valves
  • Understanding of EAR, HTS, 232/301 tariffs, and applicable exemptions or exceptions
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, AES filing, and AES reporting
  • Experience working with ERP software and reporting
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to multitask and analyze issues involving varied business and regulatory factors
  • Customs Broker license
  • U.S. citizenship
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense security clearance
  • Ability to work in an office environment and sit or stand for long periods
