STV is seeking a Traction Power Engineering Specialist to join our Systems Department in our New York City office. This role offers the opportunity to work on complex electrified rail and transit infrastructure projects, supporting the design, construction, and delivery of traction power systems.
This position is ideal for an engineering professional who brings both technical design experience and hands-on construction exposure, with a strong desire to continue developing within the traction power discipline.
Key Responsibilities
Support the design and development of AC and DC traction power systems, including substations, power distribution systems, and grounding designs
Prepare engineering drawings, calculations, technical specifications, and reports in support of rail and transit projects
Perform basic drafting and design work using industry-standard software tools
Participate in field inspections, site assessments, and construction oversight activities for active rail and infrastructure environments
Supervise and coordinate construction crews, ensuring adherence to design specifications, safety standards, and project schedules
Support testing, commissioning, and system integration efforts during project delivery
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including civil, systems, and construction management professionals
Assist in problem-solving and resolution of field issues during construction
Maintain accurate documentation and reporting of project progress and field conditions
Continuously learn and adopt new engineering tools, software platforms, and emerging technologies
Required Qualifications
Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (Electrical Engineering preferred)
5–10 years of relevant experience in engineering, with exposure to construction environments
Demonstrated construction experience, including fieldwork and coordination with contractors
Willingness and ability to work outdoors in active construction and rail environments
Experience or interest in supervising field teams or construction crews
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, Project)
Basic experience in drafting/design tools (AutoCAD, MicroStation, or similar preferred)
Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across teams
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic project environment
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with traction power systems, substations, or electrical infrastructure for rail/transit projects
Knowledge of applicable industry standards (IEEE, NFPA, AREMA)
Professional Engineer (PE) license or working toward licensure
Interest in pursuing advanced education (Master’s degree) in Electrical Engineering
Experience with power system analysis or modeling tools (e.g., ETAP, SKM)
Compensation Range:
