This opportunity entails being responsible for some or all of the following:
Production and modification of design calculations, technical reports, engineering plans and specifications. Consult with the project manager to perform research, development, calculations, design and delivery. Leverages technical knowledge and experience to address design related issues or concerns, working closely with the project manager through creative problem solving, interactions with clients and by completing tasks to meet the project schedule. Work with a multidiscipline staff to trouble shoot design and construction challenges. As a member of the team, you will contribute to the successful project delivery for a diverse range of projects for HNTB’s clients. As part of a national rail team with a large local staff here in Philadelphia, you will get the opportunity to work on local and national projects aimed at transforming rail infrastructure around the country.
You will support transit and railroad projects at all stages from conceptual study and alternative analysis to final design and construction related services. Types of projects may include interlocking renewals, bridge replacements, new track construction, and station designs for Amtrak, SEPTA, PATCO, PATH, Pittsburgh Regional Transit, PennDOT and other national rail clients throughout the United States. Opportunities can include client interaction and marketing/proposal development. The Pennsylvania office had a diverse set of engineers at all levels and railroad disciplines allowing hands on learning from junior and senior staff for track, OCS, signals, power, structures, civil and more.
Candidates with passenger or freight rail experience are preferred, but willing to discuss a career with someone with Civil/Highway experience with knowledge of OpenRoads / InRoads / Civil3D that has a desire to pivot towards a career in Track / Rail design.

What You'll Do:

  • Completes assigned work within the schedule and number of hours provided.
  • Assist in the development of project specifications.
  • Responsible for development of discipline specific engineering project elements/deliverables such as reports, designs, and plans.
  • Aids in the coordination and productivity of project team members.
  • Provides technical guidance to less experienced engineering project team members.
  • Works closely with other disciplines and on multi-discipline projects.
  • Performs quality control reviews of discipline - specific engineering project elements/deliverables.
  • Assists with coordination and planning of schedules, hours, and distribution of work within discipline.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What You'll Need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 4 years of relevant experience, or
  • Master’s degree in Engineering and 3 year of relevant experience, or
  • PhD in Engineering and 2 years of relevant experience

What You'll Bring:

  • Strong communication skills to work with our team and the client.
  • Understands the impacts of decisions on technical design and work planning.
  • Exhibiting experience with OpenRail, MicroStation/PowerRail and/or AutoCad.
  • Understanding of track/railroad design.
  • Managing time, proactively forecasting, and communicating project development needs.

What We Prefer:

  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification
  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification
