Summary  

The R&D Project Engineer (PE) is a key role of the Technology and Product Development (TPD) Team that delivers forward leaning technology, products, and solutions to CAE through research and development initiatives. The Project Engineer (PE) leads, coordinates, and exercises technical project’s execution authority over Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) for planning, organizing, controlling, integration, execution of, and close out of engineering content on a variety of R&D projects.   

The ideal candidate possesses a strong working knowledge of agile software development, deep technical knowledge in flight training & mission simulation products, as well as traditional project management skills.  The TPD team is executing a complex R&D strategy to serve the business needs of CAE globally.  R&D project engineers ensure we meet that technical challenge on time and on budget.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • The position will report directly to TPD Leadership and will work closely with the TPD leadership team and program management stakeholders.   

  • Receives engineering direction from and is accountable to TPD Leadership, who has overall responsibility for successfully managing all Defense & Security R&D investments in alignment with business needs.   

  • Responsible for managing the cost, schedule, and technical performance of large, complex R&D project of strategic importance to the organization, involving large, geographically distributed, cross-functional teams.   

  • The PE performs as the technical lead over the assigned engineering team on a program to include leading/participating in project peer & gate reviews, supporting program management reviews (PMRs), and coordinating technology transitions to customer programs. 

  • The PE performs weekly/monthly Cost Account Management (CAM) reviews with IPTs and is responsible for technical, cost and schedule performance for the engineering content on a strategic R&D Project.   

  • Additionally, this role is the primary interface to support groups outside of engineering like finance, procurement, and subcontracts for each project, proactively building relationships across functions, rallying the project team around shared goals and timelines.  This includes facilitating joint design reviews, integration workshops, and problemsolving sessions where diverse perspectives are valued. 

  • Embrace challenging issues as opportunities for growth. Lead the team through complex tradeoffs, risk assessments, and corrective actions, demonstrating resilience and determination. 

  • Work consists of making significant improvements of processes, systems, solutions, or products to enhance performance of job area.   

  • Implement strategic goals established by leadership.   

 

Qualifications and Education Requirements  

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Technical related degree  

  • 5+ years of engineering experience in agile development programs and/or projects 

  • Strong presentation skills including preparing impactful material and delivering the message. 

  • History writing proposal responses, SOW’s and other contract related documentation. 

  • Background in Agile Software development framework 

  • Due to U.S. Government contract requirements, only U.S. citizens are eligible for this role.   

Preferred Skills  

  • Advanced Master’s Degree in an engineering discipline   

  • Scaled Agile Framework Certification  

  • Experience with Atlassian Jira development and collaboration tools, Earned Value Management (EVM), and Microsoft Project   

  • 5+ years of experience in the training and simulation or other related industry 

  • Experience performing as liaison between program management, engineering management, and the technical disciplines involved in a project.   

Security Responsibilities  

Must comply with all company security and data protection / usage policies and procedures.  Personally responsible for proper marking and handling of all information and materials, in any form. Shall not divulge any information, or afford access, to other employees not having a need-to-know. Shall not divulge information outside company without management approval.  All government and proprietary information will be accessed and stored electronically on company provided resources.   

  •  Incumbent must be eligible for DoD Personal Security Clearance.  

 

Due to U.S. Government contract requirements, only U.S. citizens are eligible for this role.  

 

Work Environment  

  • Works at job activities that require sitting, standing or walking for short periods throughout the day and focused visual concentration or focused listening    

  • Work is sometimes performed in an environment where irritants such as noise, temperature, and lighting variations may exist.    

  • Ability to travel up to 25%.  

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.    

 

Physical Demands  

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.     

  • Must be able to perform normal office duties (e.g. sitting for long periods at a desk)    

  • Must be able to travel CONUS/OCONUS via car and airplane    

  • Must be able to climb stairs to enter and exit a simulator
