The Toolpusher assists in managing the safe and efficient drilling operation of the rig and acts as Senior Toolpusher in his or her absence.
ResponsibilitiesDrilling Operations Assists in supervising drilling operations, ensuring efficient conduct and compliance with the Company drilling procedures and health, safety and environmental (HSE) policies and procedures. Monitors rig-ups. Monitors the condition and maintenance of the drilling equipment and support machinery at all times; oversees field-permitted rig repairs. Makes decisions on progress of drilling based on threats to safety and accuracy of the drilling program. Observes the conduct and work performance of the drilling crew to ensure safe and efficient performance. Carries out routine inspections and corrects or reports all hazards. Takes action to safeguard the well and drilling equipment during a fire or other emergency. Verifies preventative maintenance performance and operational readiness of drilling equipment through work observations and inspections. Supervises and tests the installation of casing and blowout prevention (BOP) equipment. Monitors adequacy of drilling operation supplies; requisitions supply materials. Monitors environmental protection per Company standards and local regulations. Drilling Reports Maintains drilling journals, logs, and reports as directed. Assists in preparation of the IADC reports and Toolpusher�s Weekly Inspection Report. Compiles the daily drilling report and daily pump report. Safety Participates in the Safety Training Observation Program (S.T.O.P.) and the weekly, operational, and pre-tour safety meetings. Participates and assists in providing safety training. Develops and implements Job Safety Analyses and prepares risk assessments for drilling tasks; implements applicable control measures. Coordinates and conducts well control and general safety drills according to Company policies and procedures. Performs, documents, and reports accident investigations; recommends corrective actions. General Management Keeps manager informed of progress on assigned tasks and current conditions; prepares hand-over notes for relief. Helps supervise the drilling crew; coordinates and assigns their work activities. Ensures crews are trained and qualified for their jobs according to the Company, statutory, and client requirements; makes certain that Assistant Drillers and Drillers possess approved and current Well Control Certificates. Delegates and performs on-the-job training. Recommends drilling crew members for further training and possible promotion. Maintains effective communication with drilling crew and keeps them informed. Reviews and authorizes work permits. Other Participates as a member of the rig�s emergency response team responsible for well safety; advises manager on drilling-related matters and coordinates the drilling team�s emergency response activities. Maintains effective customer relationships. Maintains updated knowledge of all local regulations, codes, and standards, and ensures rig and personnel are in compliance. Responsible for the control and safe conduct of deck operations when the Barge engineer is off tour (jack-ups only). Performs all duties in accordance with the Permit to Work System. Performs other duties and special projects as requested by management. QualificationsEducation: High school diploma or educational equivalent is preferred. Professional Experience: Skills � Technical: Must have 2 or more years� experience as a Driller. Skills � Communication: Bi-lingual is preferred (English) Verbal communication skills necessary. Skills � People: Ability to interact with individuals in a cross-cultural environment. Leadership and employee development skills. Team oriented. Licenses, Certifications, Credentials, and Other Requirements: Well Control Certificate of Competency at Supervisor�s Level is required. Certified in required safety training programs. Must pass pre-employment and random drug tests.
