Tooling Design Engineer

JOB SUMMARY

The Tooling Design Engineer is responsible for creating and modifying detailed technical drawings primarily utilized in the repair and/or overhaul of aerospace components by using Auto CAD and SolidWorks applications. This position will coordinate and collaborate with the engineering team to ensure all drawings and designs meet original equipment manufacturer (OEM) and aerospace standards. 

This position will work alongside a team of experienced department professionals that will allow continuous interaction for acquiring the techniques, knowledge, and skills required of the job, while collaborating with other company experts of the business.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Follow established safety protocols and guidelines to ensure full compliance with company safety policies and procedures.
2. Collaborate cross-functionally with the engineering and production departments to improve upon documentation, processes, and tool designs.
3. Prepare drawings and figures derived from a variety of specifications, layouts, blueprints, and sketches.
   1. Coordinate with engineering to design fixture/tooling drawings using SolidWorks.
   2. Produce standardized operation sketches to clearly show repair requirements using 2D AutoCAD.
4. Reviews drawings and designs to ensure adherence to established specifications and standards.
5. Organize and maintain computer files, drawings and forms while following documentation control procedures.
6. Interpret and utilize geometric symbols and feature controls.

1. Design and create prototype tooling using 3D printer and 3D modeling with SolidWorks.
2. Utilize 3D scanning technology to measure components for reverse engineering.

 REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. A degree in the engineering/technology/manufacturing field, or equivalent demonstrated experience.
2. A minimum of six months previous experience with drafting and tooling design.
3. Knowledge of, or some exposure to 3D printing.
4. Ability to keep up with rapidly changing technology and drafting standards.
5. Understanding FEA analysis.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

1. Understanding of basic shop math and geometric tolerances as related to drawings and standard manufacturing methods.
2. Standard drafting practices and the ability to use and/or experience in AutoCAD, SolidWorks and Microsoft Office Suites.
3. Demonstrated ability in adhering to a high attention to detail standards.
4. Read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
5. Understanding of safety regulations and best practices in a manufacturing environment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

1. This position has pre-employment testing requirements that may require fitness for duty testing and a vision exam.
2. Follow general shop safety procedures including the occasional use of safety glasses, safety toe shoes, and hearing protection in designated areas.
3. Stand and/or sit for portions of the shift. 
4. Occasionally required to lift, carry, push or pull up to 10 lbs.
