The Tool Manager is responsible for the oversight, tracking, maintenance, and readiness of all company tools and small equipment across multiple yard locations. This role ensures tools are properly maintained, accounted for, and readily available to support field crews, especially during storm restoration and emergency deployments.

Responsibilities:

    Tool Inventory & Asset Management

    • Maintain accurate inventory of all company tools and small equipment
    • Implement and manage tool tracking systems (barcode, RFID, or software-based)
    • Monitor tool usage, loss, and replacement needs
    • Conduct regular audits across all yard locations
    • Tool Maintenance & Readiness

      • Ensure all tools are inspected, tested, and maintained in safe working condition
      • Coordinate repairs, calibration, and replacement of damaged or worn tools
      • Establish preventative maintenance schedules
      • Multi-Site Coordination

        • Oversee tool distribution and availability across Pennsylvania, Pittsburgh, Mississippi, and Connecticut yards
        • Coordinate movement of tools between locations based on operational needs
        • Support mobilization efforts by preparing tool packages for storm response
        • Storm Response Support

          • Ensure rapid deployment readiness of tools and equipment for emergency restoration work
          • Assemble and stage tool kits for crews prior to storm events
          • Track and reconcile tools during and after storm assignments
          • Vendor & Purchasing Coordination

            • Source and procure tools and equipment as needed
            • Maintain relationships with vendors and suppliers
            • Evaluate cost, quality, and performance of tools and equipment  
            • Safety & Compliance

              • Ensure all tools meet OSHA and company safety standards
              • Remove unsafe or defective equipment from service immediately
              • Support safety initiatives and training related to tool usage
              • Yard Organization & Support

              • Maintain organized tool storage areas within each yard
              • Work closely with operations and fleet teams to optimize yard efficiency
              • Support inventory control and logistics processes

Qualifications:

  • 3–5+ years of experience in tool management, warehouse operations, or equipment coordination (preferably in utilities or construction)
  • Strong knowledge of hand tools, power tools, and utility-specific equipment
  • Experience with inventory management systems and tracking tools
  • High attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, operations-driven environment
  • Strong communication and problem-solving abilities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and inventory management software
  • Preferred Experience

    • Experience in electrical contracting, utilities, or storm restoration operations
    • Familiarity with fleet yards and field crew support logistics
    • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and tool safety standards

Work Environment & Travel

  • Periodic travel between yard locations (PA, Pittsburgh, MS, CT)
  • Ability to work extended hours during storm events and emergency response situations
  • Combination of office, warehouse, and outdoor yard environments

Skills Required

  • 3-5+ years of experience in tool management, warehouse operations, or equipment coordination
  • Strong knowledge of hand tools, power tools, and utility-specific equipment
  • Experience with inventory management systems and tracking tools
