This position supports our Contractor Equipment Division (CED) in Rogers, MN. At CED, our product line meets the needs of painting and general contractors and includes airless, air and gas-powered sprayers, line stripers, pressure washers, and roofing equipment (http://bit.ly/1zMGRDu).

Job Purpose

The Tool Designer is responsible to provide Tool Services with the appropriate supply and optimum designed cutting tools and conventional fixtures for scheduled delivery dates. The Tool Designer provides technical support to engineering and production groups as required.

Essential Duties

  • Plans and designs all necessary tool components assigned by using resources available to ensure optimum design at minimum fabrication expense.

  • Actively maintains and improves knowledge of tool design, machines, engineering standards, procedures, new technology (materials, hydraulic and/or pneumatic clamping, etc.) through personal training and education.

  • Meets all delivery, quality, and cost objectives associated with tool design responsibilities through optimum utilization of available machines, labor, information and technology.

  • Provides technical support to requests, suggestions and inquiries from Tool Services, Engineering and Quality personnel.

  • Applies Graco Engineering standards where applicable to all delineations to ensure conformity to tool fabrication.

  • Provides all tool components necessary to complete the fabrication of assigned tool orders.

  • Involves the requestor throughout the entire design and build process to avoid quality issues and ensure 100% requestor satisfaction.

  • Demonstrates the ability to develop and communicate design concepts to all levels of manufacturing personnel.

  • Understands the applications of PLCs and sensors.

  • Ability to start the design/build process, with engineering, by generating a strong conceptual idea of the tool and how it will perform the required results.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

Essential Qualifications

  • Minimum of High School and 4 years experience of some combination of the following:

    • Technical training in Tool and Die Design and/or Machine Design.

  • CAD/CAM training minimum of 1 year experience.

  • Technical training in Tool and Die or Machining Trade School. 

Desirable Qualifications

  • Hydraulic and pneumatic knowledge and experience.

  • A proven innovative design ability.

  • An understanding of Just-In-Time and Quick Change Tooling.

The base pay range for this position is listed below, exclusive of fringe benefits or other compensation.  If you are hired, your final base hourly rate will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, competencies, education, and/or experience.  In addition to those factors, we will also consider internal equity of our current employees.  Please keep in mind that the range provided is the full base salary range for the role.  Hiring at or near the maximum of the range would not be typical to allow for future and continued salary growth.

$26.11 - $45.72
