What We're Looking For:
Michael Baker International is actively seeking a Tolling Technical Manager to work on the Mobile River Bridge and Bayway Project which is the largest project in the history of the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT). The project is on Interstate 10 and consists of a new six-lane state-of-the-art cable-stayed bridge across the Mobile River. The Mobile River Bridge will be tolled, and delivery of an All-Electronic Toll (AET) collection program is included with the project. Michael Baker is serving as the Owner’s Project Manager and performs a vast array of duties for ALDOT including oversight of the planning, design, testing, and implementation of Alabama’s first toll collection program, which is expected to start toll collection in 2031.
Tolling is an exciting and challenging component for many transportation infrastructure projects. The selected candidate will join a growing team responsible for the implementation of the toll program and will report directly to the Michael Baker Lead Tolling Manager. The selected candidate is required to have previous management and leadership experience delivering tolling programs and services. The person is expected to act as an extension of ALDOT staff, collaborate with the toll implementation team (ALDOT / Michael Baker / other consultants / design-build team / vendors).
What You'll Do:
- Assist the project team with the development of procurement documents and coordinating the procurement process for the roadside systems, commercial back-office system, customer service and facilities, and collection services.

- Contribute to and lead efforts related to the development of the toll program:
- Policies and procedures
- Interoperability with other toll agencies and programs
- Financial controls
- Communications and marketing activities
- Data management, analytics, and reporting
- Coordination with the project Design-Builder construction activities related to the toll site infrastructure
- Close coordination with ALDOT and other Alabama agency staff
- Development of ALDOT internal tolling staff
- The Tolling Technical Manager must be adaptable to working remotely while remaining highly responsive to project needs and day-to-day operational demands.
What You Need to Succeed:
- Bachelor’s degree; preferably with a focus in engineering, planning, computer science or finance
- Minimum 5 years’ experience leading activities related to the implementation of toll collection systems
- Strong analytical and technical skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams
- Ability to work independently and is a self-starter
- Comfortable directly engaging the client and the ability to represent the client’s best interests in working with contractors, vendors, and design-build teams
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong writing skills for preparing technical standards, drafting contract language, RFPs, memos, and reports
Compensation:
The approximate compensation range for this position is $150,000 – $160,000 per year. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
