Serves as the principal institutional official responsible for coordinating, implementing, and overseeing compliance with Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (Title IX). Performs essential functions personally, through others, or in conjunction with designated personnel or outside vendors/experts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develops, oversees, and maintains processes for receiving all Title IX complaints and reports of sex-based discrimination, harassment, sexual violence, and related allegations of misconduct. Keeps affected parties apprised of the status of complaints. Ensures investigations of reports and complaints of sex-based discrimination are adequate, reliable, timely, confidential, and impartial. Manages cases in compliance with Title IX and Clery requirements.
  • Works with decisionmakers on proposed sanctions for sex-based discrimination before they are imposed to ensure they are reasonably calculated to stop and prevent its recurrence.
  • Serves as the institutional custodian or supervises the custodian of record of all Title IX records for internal and external reporting purposes by maintaining documentation and records of complaints, investigations, and reports. Safeguards their confidentiality.
  • Provides educational programs regarding sex-based discrimination prevention; prepares and disseminates educational material, to include brochures, posters, and web-based materials that inform members of the campus community of Title IX rights and responsibilities. Delivers training to university constituents to promote knowledge of institutional policies and pertinent federal and state standards.
  • Collaborates with other departments to ensure Title IX policy is communicated to all constituencies. Works to strengthen the culture that supports a safe and respectful learning, working, and living environment on campus.
  • Monitors, audits, and oversees compliance of university policies and procedures to include assigned federal and or state compliance obligations are satisfied. Provides documentation of these efforts. Federal and state regulatory compliance areas include but are not limited to: Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (Title IX), the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act (VAWA), Campus SaVe Act, the Clery Act, the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
  • Recommends solutions to identified areas of compliance exposure, reviews solution implementation, if applicable.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Provides information for the university's Annual Security Report.
  • Develops and maintains ongoing educational programming regarding sex-based discrimination for the university community.
  • Provides routine compliance reports to senior leadership as directed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:

Minimum: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. Four years relevant experience in a Title IX role at a college or university. Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience as determined by the appropriate executive.

Working knowledge of applicable laws including, but not limited to Title IX, Title VII, Clery Act, VAWA, FERPA, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and other federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to persons with disabilities. Knowledge of due process. Knowledge of conflict resolution principles.

Desired: Graduate degree from an accredited institution in a related field strongly preferred (e.g., criminal justice, higher education administration). Formal Title IX Coordinator or investigator training.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Preferred: Formal Title IX Coordinator or investigator training.

Computer/Equipment Skills:

  • Utilize Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) or appropriate alternative software to the extent required to effectively perform the essential functions

Environmental Factors/Physical Demands:

Work is performed in an office environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to have the ability to maintain active customer and employee communication; access, input and retrieve information from the computer system; enter alphanumeric data into a computerized system often while listening on the telephone. (May be subject to bending, reaching, kneeling, stooping and lifting up to thirty (30) pounds.)
