We’re seeking a driven Engineer for a pivotal role within our technology department in Monroe, NC. This role will be responsible for optimizing Titanium melt technology and supporting processes to safely implement yield, cost and productivity improvements with new and existing assets.
Primary Purpose of this Job
This Process Engineering position is responsible for providing melt process technical support to Monroe, NC manufacturing facilities.
Essential Functions (other duties may be assigned)
Essential job functions may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Technical responsibility / project ownership covering titanium remelting operations, with downstream customers both internal to ATI and external customers in the aerospace and defense industries.
- Develop and maintain process instructions in support of process compliance.
- Provide technical product support from quote-to-shipment for cast ingot products. Develop flow paths, recipes, review specifications, and manage product documentation.
- Provide technical support in resolving process-related deviations and customer complaints.
- Track critical-to-quality (CTQ) metrics and implement statistical process control (SPC) programs.
- Identify opportunities for improvement through daily shop floor walks and interactions with Operations, Maintenance and Quality personnel.
- Collaborate with other metallurgical engineers and the Quality and Operations organizations to develop and lead improvements to manufacturing processes and standards that enhance safety, product quality, productivity, and cost.
- Support new product- and new process-development, from concept and evaluation through standardization.
- Provide technical support during customer audits and inquiries.
Minimum Job Requirements (Equivalent combinations of education, licenses, certifications and/or experience may be considered)
Education & Training Required:
- B.S. or M.S. in Materials Science & Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or related discipline.
- Statistical data analysis using JMP, Mini-Tab, or related software.
- Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point).
- Knowledge of CAD is considered a plus.
Experience Required:
- 2+ years of industrial metals manufacturing experience.
- Process or product engineering industrial experience related to manufacturing Ni/Co-base superalloys, Ti alloys, or specialty steels preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities typically required to perform the essential functions of this job.
- Working knowledge of liquid metal processing of Ni/Co-base superalloys, Ti alloys, and specialty steels. Possesses an understanding and ability to clearly explain measured process data with metallurgical theory.
- Utilizes scientifically rigorous, data driven approach to problem solving. Embraces root cause problem solving and carefully considers the risks associated with enacting long-term countermeasures.
- Strong communicator with demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical concepts and requirements to shop floor personnel as well as senior management.

Skills Required
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Materials Science and Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or a related discipline
- Experience with statistical data analysis using JMP, Minitab, or related software
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- At least 2 years of industrial metals manufacturing experience
- Process or product engineering experience involving nickel/cobalt-based superalloys, titanium alloys, or specialty steels
- Working knowledge of liquid metal processing and metallurgical theory
- Data-driven root cause problem-solving skills
- Ability to communicate technical concepts to shop-floor personnel and senior management
