Tier 2 Linux Engineer (Onsite - Westbury, Long Island) Location: Westbury, NY
We are looking for a Tier 2 Linux Engineer to join our onsite team in Westbury, Long Island. This full-time, hands-on role is perfect for someone with strong Linux experience who enjoys working in dynamic environments and solving real-world technical problems.
Responsibilities:
- Provide Tier 2 support for Linux-based systems (primarily Ubuntu, CentOS, RHEL)
- Troubleshoot OS, application, and networking issues across production and internal systems
- Manage user accounts, permissions, and system configurations
- Maintain and configure services such as Apache/Nginx, SSH, DNS, DHCP, MySQL/PostgreSQL
- Monitor system performance and security using standard tools (e.g., top, journalctl, fail2ban)
- Assist with backup, patching, and scripting for automation
- Collaborate with other engineers and escalate issues as needed
- Document procedures, incidents, and resolutions in the ticketing system
Requirements
Requirements:
- 3+ years of hands-on Linux system administration experience
- Proficiency with command line tools, shell scripting (bash), and standard Linux utilities
- Solid understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, routing, and basic firewall rules (iptables or ufw)
- Ability to troubleshoot services, logs, and performance issues
- Strong communication and documentation skills
- Must be able to work onsite daily in Westbury, NY
- 4 days (32 hours) per week including evenings and weekends.
- Reliable transportation is required
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, cron scripting)
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
- Experience with containers (Docker) or virtualization (KVM, VMware)
- Knowledge of version control (Git) and ticketing systems (e.g., ConnectWise, Jira)
