General Description:

The Mixed Signal Solutions department at HRL Laboratories is a highly talented team of scientists and engineers with diverse backgrounds in integrated circuit design, advanced packaging and integration, novel signal processing and algorithm development, and integration/characterization of highly complex digital and mixed signal systems and subsystems for commercial and government applications in an innovative research and development environment. As a member of the team, you will focus on the thermal and mechanical solutions to help transition the innovative concepts into prototype hardware.


Essential Duties:

•Work closely with other domain experts (e.g. system architects, hardware engineers, electrical/RF engineers) to perform thermal and mechanical design and simulation activities in support of development of highly advanced mixed signal prototypes. 

•Present details of work to colleagues during design reviews, and provide written summaries of work performed as needed (e.g. for reports and internal documentation).


Required Skills:

Experience with CAD design (e.g. Solidworks), FEM analysis, analytical and numerical methods for solving real-world 1D, 2D, and 3D heat flow and mechanical (e.g. stress/strain) problems.

Experience with associated laboratory techniques such as thermal measurements and yield analysis. Additional skills such as electrical engineering design, programming (e.g. automation of laboratory data acquisition and data analysis) are a plus.

Training / background in mechanical and thermal design and related analysis, including theory of heat flow, stress/strain analysis, failure analysis, relevant material properties. 

Knowledge of basic electrical engineering and circuit design principles. 

Use of Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) and proficiency in writing for reporting.


Required Education:

BA or BS in Mechanical Engineering or related scientific discipline.


Physical Requirements:

Proficiency in use of computers, engineering work stations, complex electronic equipment, oral and written communication, interaction with vendors/colleagues and willingness to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Ability to work well in a team and independently. Must be sufficiently mobile to work within confined spaces and have both visual and hearing acuity.


Special Requirements: 

U.S. citizenship is required.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance. Active SSBI is a plus.


Compensation:

The base salary range for this full-time position $76,530 - $93,320 + bonus + benefits.
