At LiquidStack, we’re redefining what’s possible in the data center world. As a global leader in advanced liquid cooling solutions, we’re powering the future of AI, edge computing, and high-performance systems. Our team is growing, and we’re looking for skilled professionals who want to be part of something innovative and impactful.
The Thermal Engineer is responsible for designing and developing innovative cooling solutions for high-performance computing and data center environments. This role covers the full lifecycle of thermal systems — including design, modeling, simulation, prototyping, testing, and validation — to ensure performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
The ideal candidate will combine strong analytical expertise, hands-on mechanical experience, and data center knowledge to develop advanced thermal solutions. This engineer will collaborate across hardware, firmware, and operations teams to optimize designs and ensure efficient, reliable product performance.
Key Duties & ResponsibilitiesDesign & Architecture:
- Develop thermal architectures and cooling solutions (air and liquid) for data center hardware while balancing performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
Prototyping & Testing:
- Design, build, and execute test plans for new cooling solutions and prototypes using lab equipment and electronic data acquisition tools to measure performance and validate designs.
Data Analysis & Validation:
- Collect and interpret post-silicon thermal data, validate design models against real-world tests, and provide recommendations to cross-functional teams.
Collaboration:
- Work closely with mechanical and electrical engineers, data center operations, and firmware developers to integrate thermal solutions into products and infrastructure while partnering with external vendors as needed.
Component Selection:
- Identify and design thermal components such as heat sinks, fans, cold plates, and liquid cooling systems to meet thermal requirements.
Leadership:
- Lead all thermal performance evaluations, testing activities, and thermal design reviews, providing technical guidance to team members.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- 3–5 years of experience designing and calculating HVAC systems in industrial buildings or data centers.
- Deep understanding of thermal cycles including adiabatic, isothermal, evaporative cooling, and dehumidification cycles.
- Ability to perform airflow, thermal flow, and temperature calculations.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD 2D/3D, SolidWorks, and relevant engineering design software.
- Hands-on experience with lab equipment, airflow chambers, and data acquisition systems.
- Strong problem-solving skills for diagnosing and resolving system-level thermal issues with root-cause analysis.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for presenting technical findings to teams and vendors.
- HVAC or refrigeration certification.
- Experience with liquid immersion cooling or advanced thermal management technologies.
- Programming skills in Python or similar languages for thermal data analysis and automation.
- Experience collaborating in global or multicultural teams.

What We Do
In 2014, a small team of engineers gathered in a Hong Kong high-rise. Working in space smaller than a standard shipping container, we created the next revolution in immersion cooling.
Meet LiquidStack, the world's largest liquid cooling provider for hyperscale, edge and high performance computing. The pioneers of 2-phase immersion cooling, LiquidStack holds multiple awards for building the world's most efficient data centers. Our cooling technology, products and services play a vital role in reducing energy consumption, cutting e-waste and massively lowering greenhouse emissions.
Formerly Allied Control Limited (ACL), the company was founded with the sole purpose of driving continued performance gains in computing through our breakthrough technology and unmatched experience deploying liquid cooled data centers at scale. While we embrace all forms of liquid cooling, 2-phase immersion outperforms the alternatives across every possible metric: heat rejection capacity, energy efficiency, water usage, space utilization, flexibility and positive, sustainable climate impact. Our goal is to do more than simply change minds. We aim to change the world for the better.
