Job Description

Terminal Repairs:
• Scan the serial number of the POS terminal to start the testing and repair process.
• Check the repair history of the terminal on the ERP system (Translution Repair System) to see if it is under warranty or not.
• Perform a visual check of the outside and inside of POS terminal to determine any damage apparent to the naked eye.
• Power the POS terminal up and run a diagnostic test using the auto-test programme on the terminal.
• During the auto-test procedure, perform manual tests as instructed by the auto-test programme including running the terminal print function, swiping a mag-stripe card using the terminal, and pressing keys on the keypad.
• If a fault is found during the fault-finding diagnostic procedure, select replacement parts using the ERP system and collect parts from the store.
• Perform the required repair by replacing modular parts if applicable (for example, main printed circuit board, display unit, printer), or replacing external parts (for example, power supplies, rechargeable battery packs and cables).
• Perform a diagnostic test using the auto-test programme on the terminal to determine if all faults have been repaired. If faults have not yet been resolved, perform test and repair functions until the faults have been repaired.
• Using the ERP system, select “Finish Job”.
• Hand the terminals to the Dressers for cleaning.
• Using the ERP system, scan the repaired units in preparation for key injection loading (if applicable for the type of terminal) and move the terminals to the key injection area.
• Once the terminals are returned from key injection, (where applicable), load the latest operating and customer software onto the terminals using memory sticks or via ethernet to CMS.
• Hand a list of terminal serial numbers of terminals that have been repaired, to the Administrators for the Administrator to generate a quote for the customer.
• Receive the approved customer quote from the Administrator and perform a quality check by switching the unit on and perform a final manual test.
• Prepare terminals for dispatch by putting them into boxes in accordance with the approved
quote.
• From time to time, strip terminals down for spare parts for storage.
Preparation of New Terminals:
• Where applicable, prepare new terminals for key injection by loading relevant key injection software using a memory stick.
• Hand over terminals to the relevant department for key injection.
• Load the latest operating and customer software onto new terminals using memory sticks or via ethernet to CMS.
• Prepare terminals for dispatch by putting them into boxes in accordance with customer requirements as per instruction from the line manager.
General:
• Count stock if requested to, during half-year and year-end stock takes.
• Adhere to housekeeping and health and safety processes at the workbench in the Repair Centre

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

Educational Qualifications:

  • Matric or N3 certificate is required.

Years of Experience:

Terminal testing and repair experience is advantageous

Other Requirements:

  • Computer literate. Knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word advantageous.
