Job Description
The Test Engineering Manager is an experienced leader responsible for setting the strategic direction and execution of test activities for hardware, firmware and software. This leader will manage a team responsible for establishing, maintaining, monitoring, and executing the validation and verification strategies of security systems solutions. We are looking for a highly motivated candidate who wants to help us modernize our test approach and infrastructure.
The ideal candidate has both management and hands-on experience developing and executing validation and verification activities for complex system solutions that require external certifications. We are looking for someone who considers testing their true passion and strives to bring system solutions to an exceptional level of reliability. The ideal candidate is flexible, self-motivated, curious and passionate about modern techniques to include, but not limited to, test automation.
This role requires leadership experience to drive the development of manual test practices for the next generation of products. This leader will work as part of a team to design and develop effective test strategies and tools as well as maintain the current portfolio of products. The ideal candidate should be able to use knowledge of testing and testability to influence better software design, promote proper engineering practices, bug prevention strategies, testability, accessibility, privacy, and other advanced quality concepts across products.
Principal Responsibilities:
The Test Engineering Manager, will provide functional engineering leadership/management to a team of test engineers and regulatory specialists to ensure the robustness and integrity of systems solutions inclusive of real-time embedded security systems and the accompanying software application suite.
- Define, plan, organize and coordinate V&V activities with teams across multiple sites
- Lead regulatory specialists in guiding product certification activities and staying current on regulatory updates
- Aptitude for continuous improvement, identify and implement industry standard software test best practices, methods, and tools
- Define key performance metrics to assess effectivity of test strategies
- Implement standard quality metrics and influence the adoption across project teams
- Effectively engages in staff planning that helps to ensure the department is appropriately staffed to accomplish its goals and objectives
- Responsible for performance reviews and working with the team members on their goal setting expectations, career development plans and priorities
- Collaborate with other engineering leaders to achieve project commitments
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or related field
- 12+ years’ experience in software development and/or testing of software; 5+ years of hands on engineering leadership
- Passionate about quality and software testing
- Demonstrated leadership and experience guiding engineering teams
- Experience/familiar with CI/CD pipeline software such as: GITLAB, Jenkins, Confluence, JIRA, etc.
- Proven demonstration of requirements-based testing, defect tracking requirements tracing and source control management systems
- Ability to take the customer perspective
- Ability to multitask, adapt and thrive in an environment of change and evolving processes
- Ability to influence change and institutionalize best practices
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Flexibility and adaptability to changing daily activities and schedules is required
- High-level of interpersonal skills demonstrated in interactions with individuals at all levels, inside and outside the organization.
- Strong advocate for continuous learning and application of technologies to achieve desired personal and productivity outcomes for themselves and the team.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proven experience with scripting languages: Python, Perl, Tcl, etc.
- Experience with test automation frameworks to standardize test automation across products and technologies
- Deep understanding of defining test beds for both functional and non-functional automation.
- Experience working in a regulated environments
- Knowledge of regulatory standards (e.g. UL, CE) a plus
- Experience with Linux platforms
Additional Information
The U.S. base salary range for this full-time position is $165,000-178,000.
