A Day in the Life

Medtronic - Digital Technologies is creating ambitious new products that bring connectivity, real-time guidance, and decision support to the operating room. To support this mission, we are developing compact, high-performance, embedded systems that enable edge computing and connectivity. Working closely with other teams across Medtronic, we are creating a connected ecosystem and leveraging the state of the art in computer vision to provide the most comprehensive view of surgery. As a Test Engineer within Digital Technologies’ engineering team, you will be working alongside developers, designers, and product owners to ensure that we deliver consistent quality products to our customers. We are looking for a driven Test Engineer who is well versed in automation, exploratory testing and finds value in driving story development through user-centric examples.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:

  • Collaborate with developers to ensure acceptance criteria are met for each user story and where possible, turn the criteria into executable specifications.
  • Conduct acceptance testing using appropriate techniques for individual stories and release candidates and updating test artifacts for traceability.
  • Conduct exploratory testing for individual stories and release candidates using charters and appropriate techniques to discover potential problems.
  • Contribute to guidelines that encourage better testing and testability, increase test coverage and improve the release process.
  • Design, Contribute and Implement test automation frameworks such as: “Py-Test”, “Espresso”, “Jet Pack Compose UI Framework”, “Postman” and “Contract Testing”.
  • Identify non-functional issues and work with the team to improve them.
  • Work closely with Product Owner and Developers to define acceptance criteria and definition of done for stories, features and releases.
  • Help measure how closely the product meets our quality goals and highlight risks and impediments.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and proactively support knowledge sharing across the entire team.
  • Communicate and collaborate with other members of the test team relating to risks that could impact the wider team.
  • Drive stories to completion regularly in sprint.

Required Knowledge and Experience:

  • Minimum 1 to 2 years of professional experience.
  • Hands-on experience testing native applications and hardware.
  • Strong programming skills and demonstrable experience in automation (preferably Python, Kotlin and JavaScript).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience working in an agile team.
  • Must be willing to commute to London 2 to 3 days per week.

Preferred skills include experience working with test management systems and software, as well as hands-on involvement in video testing. An understanding of medical device software standards such as IEC 62304 and ISO 13485 QMS is preferred, along with practical experience testing both medical device hardware and software. Familiarity with continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines using tools like Bitbucket, GitHub, and Jenkins is also highly valued.

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).
