Summary
Blue Current is seeking an experienced and talented Test Engineer with a passion for systems development to join our team in Hayward, California. As a hands-on member of Blue Current’s R&D team, you will be instrumental in developing next-generation solid state battery chemistries for high performance applications such as electric vehicles. The successful candidate will develop formalized processes for testing and analysis of battery test data, and manage the operation and improvement of the battery test lab.
Responsibilities
- Develop a formalized test request and battery test management system
- Collaborate across functional teams to source and install new battery test hardware, including battery cyclers, test fixtures, temperature chambers, and other equipment and instrumentation as needed
- Train technicians and manage daily operations in the test lab
- Develop test protocols and work with technical staff to determine optimal test protocols
- Develop systems and methods for monitoring the totality of the test lab and ensure test channels are used optimally
- Collaborate with data systems and IT teams to ensure data access, integrity, and backup
Requirements
- BS or equivalent work experience in a technical field
- Minimum 4 years of experience working in an industry R&D environment testing batteries, electrical components, or similar devices
- Ability to substantially advance existing testing systems
- Strong technical and interpersonal communication skills and proven ability to develop test and data management systems
- Independent and hands-on engineer with a passion for data integrity and systems development
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Required to wear personal protective equipment when applicable.
- Able to pass a respirator fit test and wear a respirator periodically.
- Able to work in office, lab, and manufacturing environments with chemicals, moving mechanical parts, and electrical hazards.
Preference
- Experience with data management and analysis, including accessing databases, processing data with scripts, and developing user interfaces to visualize data
- Experience working with customers to complete demanding next-generation battery test programs
- Proficiency programming in Python, SQL, Javascript, and/or scientific programs such as Igor Pro, Matlab, JMP or similar
