Engineering 2 is a core role at Creation Technologies, focused on executing moderately complex to complex engineering tasks required in the creation, configuration and optimization of industrial processes required to produce and/or test Circuit Card Assemblies (CCAs) and/or box assemblies. This intermediate-level engineering position is crucial for those continuing their career in electronics manufacturing services, providing an opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge in a practical setting while deepening several areas of subject matter expertise while adhering to industry standards and practices. This role executes engineering activities within the engineering team with the support of Engineering Management. It’s a role that combines hands-on experience with professional growth and a pathway for further career in advancement in the field.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but not limited to:

  • Engages in the setup and process readiness of manufacturing processes, including equipment & tooling, while ensuring optimal performance and adherence to safety standards.

  • Demonstrates a good understanding of electronics principles and manufacturing services processes.

  • Executes standard engineering projects and tasks, including prototype projects, and performs technical work within the engineering team, ensuring compliance with quality standards and that products meet customer required specifications and standards.  Deals with complex escalated issues as necessary.

  • Engages in the documentation of manufacturing processes and procedures, ensuring accurate records and adherence to protocols.

  • Maintains and/or troubleshoots the equipment, tools and tooling necessary for electronic manufacturing processes, minimizing downtime, and maintaining production efficiency.  Works with other business functions as required.

  • Troubleshoots and repairs products, as required.

  • Works effectively within the engineering team, other functions, and 3rd party partners, communicating technical information clearly and contributing to operational goals.

  • Supports and drives continuous improvement / productivity improvement efforts on existing processes and in new process development.

  • Performs root cause corrective and preventive actions as required.

  • Provides guidance to interns, and/or technicians, and/or junior engineers as needed. 

  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Test Engineering specific

  • Executes Test engineering tasks and activities with the support of Test Engineering team.

  • Read and develop wiring diagrams, schematic drawings, and engineering instructions for assembling electronics units, applying knowledge of electronic theory and components.

  • Good knowledge of test equipment (i.e., oscilloscopes, digital multi-meter, logic analyzers) executables, test stand, functional test systems and LabVIEW etc.

  • Provides test station build and develops testing procedures.

  • Designs and implements of test fixtures and setups to improve test efficiency and accuracy.

  • Documents, maintains, and improves test solutions, ensuring they are up-to-date and effective and aligned with product specifications.  Uses and updates, including tasks and schedules, Computerized Maintenance Management System.

  • Troubleshoots and calibrates test equipment, test setups and fixtures, while resolving issues and ensuring test accuracy and reliability of test results.

  • Improves test strategies, enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of testing.

  • Provides technical training and support to technicians in the use of test equipment and execution of test procedures.

  • Perform Design for Test analysis with cross functional teams, reporting and with customers.

  • Analyze electronic and electromechanical assemblies to determine cause of product defect to include circuit analysis, part identification diagnosis and replacement of defective components to bring product into specification.

  • Analyze defective components to determine failure cause and provide report, if necessary, for Engineering and Supply Chain corrective action.

  • Resolve difficult Debug escalations.

  • Monitors and drives key performance indicators (KPIs) and analyzes data to identify and resolve systemic process and performance issues.

  • Contributes to the CapEx Roadmap for the Site. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree (4 year) in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Industrial, Mechatronic, or other relevant discipline) or a related field with a focus on electronics and manufacturing processes or equivalent industry or military training experience.

  • Up to 7 years of engineering experience in electronics manufacturing preferred. 

  • Sound fundamental knowledge of digital and analog circuitry

SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Ability to interpret most technical documents such as wiring diagrams and drawings effectively.

  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and quality standards such as ISO9001/13485 or AS9100.

  • Knowledge of the concepts of New Product Introduction and how to execute projects including supporting functions.

  • Executes Design for Assembly and Test tasks as required.

  • Follows and creates detailed instructions and adheres to safety guidelines.

  • Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Capacity to learn, apply, and develop new skills in a dynamic manufacturing services environment.

  • Working knowledge of IPC standards including J-standards, 610 Class 2 and Class 3, Lean principles, six sigma and industrial ergonomics.

  • Proficient in using Computer systems and knowledge of CAD/CAM and programming.

  • Engineering project management and project leadership skills. 

  • Proficient in the use of test and measurement instrumentation, including analog, digital & RF. Proficient in the use of standard test equipment such as Oscilloscopes & Function Generators

  • Working knowledge of In-circuit Test, Boundary Scan and Flying Probe

  • Debug of test systems using design of experiments, tools, and failure analysis methodologies

  • Solid technical documentation abilities

  • Able to understand and create electrical schematic diagrams

  • Able to gather technical data, compile information, and provide recommendations

  • Demonstrate initiative, independent judgment and creativity

  • Excellent communicator in both spoken and written English

BENEFICIAL SKILLS:

  • Proven experience developing automated test systems preferably in a manufacturing test environment

  • Extensive knowledge of test and measurement instrumentation including test automation and PC based I/O and data acquisition hardware

  • Experience using PXI or LXI instrumentation

  • Use of advanced RF test equipment such as Spectrum Analyzers & Power Meters

  • Design and develop test fixtures and associated test software

  • Ability to develop test software in NI LabVIEW/TestStand or Visual Studio (C++, C#, VB)

  • Experience using Aster TestWay

  • Design experience using In-circuit Test, Boundary Scan or Flying Probe

  • Ability to design PCB schematics and PCB layout using CAD software

  • Aptitude for mechanical and electro-mechanical concepts

  • Project Management experience

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the anticipated pay for new hires for this position starts at $92,000-$100,000 CAD; a shift differential may also be provided depending on the work hours. Full-time employees are also eligible for performance-based bonuses and benefits.  This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as a final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience, education, location, and shift.
