What You’ll Be Doing 

 

This is a critical role within the TA operation, creating and maintaining a safe accommodation environment to support the health and wellbeing of residents.  The role supports this by providing a visible presence and trusted service in the delivery of a flexible, responsive high quality caretaking service across our TA portfolio.  Ensuring a high standard of cleanliness to the internal and external elements of residential buildings. 

The role will work closely with TA colleagues as a team to deliver a collective effort and ensure our TA accommodation portfolio remains Health and Safety compliant. 

The role will assist the service to improve the turnaround of empty properties.  The caretaker will assist to meet challenging targets to ensure void properties are cleared and cleaned and minor works undertaken to expediate the re-letting process. 

 

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and will require an Enhanced DBS.

We’re looking for someone who is enthusiastic about our ambition to make Camden the best place to live and work, with a genuine commitment to delivering high-quality, resident-focused services. You’ll be a proactive and dependable individual, able to work independently with minimal supervision as well as part of a team, confidently managing and prioritising competing tasks to meet deadlines and targets.

You’ll bring strong practical skills, with experience of carrying out painting, minor repairs and specialist cleaning to a good standard, alongside the physical capability to undertake manual handling and other day-to-day demands of the role safely. An understanding of health and safety is important, including the ability to carry out basic inspections, take appropriate action, and use, handle and store equipment and cleaning products in line with COSHH regulations. Knowledge of recognised cleaning standards such as BICS or NHS standards would be beneficial.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills are key, as you’ll be working in a frontline role with residents, including vulnerable clients, as well as colleagues, contractors and other stakeholders. You’ll be confident communicating both verbally and in writing, always delivering excellent customer care and building positive relationships.

You’ll also be committed to learning and development, with a willingness to complete relevant training such as health and safety, COSHH, safeguarding and manual handling. Experience of basic maintenance tasks is helpful, and an enhanced DBS will be required for working in hostel environments. Above all, you’ll bring a caring, inclusive approach, helping to ensure our services remain safe, accessible and responsive to the needs of Camden’s diverse communities.
