General summary:

The Telecommunications Engineer II is responsible for maintaining and installing telecommunications infrastructure and voice network components. Working under general supervision, this role focuses on the planning, design, and implementation of MACS (moves, adds, & changes), along with troubleshooting, monitoring, and maintaining voice, VoIP, and Call Center systems.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Participates in assessments and troubleshooting technical issues with respect to voice network and telephony systems, diagnosing telecommunication network problems such as signal loss due to interference, faulty wiring, or misconfigurations.
  • Reviewing designs, estimating costs, installing, and documenting MACS, collaborating with stakeholders to analyze floor plans, programming guides, and technical specifications.
  • Prepares and implements voice network configuration changes to enhance system performance via CLI and GUI interfaces and participates in on-call coverage for off-hours.
  • Collaboration with voice network architects on VoIP network optimization is key.
  • Logging and following up on service provider trouble tickets, managing vendor performance, and providing training and support to end users on VoIP-related devices, software, and peripherals.
  • Other duties as reasonably required or assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • A working knowledge of telecommunications is required.
  • Superior customer relations and communication skills are required.
  • Independent travel to multiple campus locations is required.
  • Ability to work weekends and on-call required.
  • Possess knowledge of concepts, procedures, and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Attention to detail, thorough in work.
  • Troubleshooting experience with telecommunications technologies is preferred.
  • Knowledgeable in VoIP, automated call distribution (ACD), voicemail system, and call recording technologies is preferred.

WORK EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS:

  • 3 years of Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Prior experience with VoIP is Preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Reliable high-speed internet connection is required for all remote/hybrid positions.
  • Must have access to stable Wi-Fi with sufficient bandwidth to support video conferencing, cloud-based tools, and other online work-related activities.
  • A HIPAA-compliant work environment is required, including a secure workspace free from unauthorized access or interruptions, no use of public Wi-Fi unless connected through a secure company-provided VPN, and compliance with all applicable HIPAA privacy and security regulations.
