JOB DESCRIPTION FOR TELECOM ENGINEER

Key Responsibilities:

Design & Engineering:

  • Lead the design and detailed engineering of telecom systems including - Telephone System, LAN System, TETRA System, Microwave Radio, PAGA, ACS, CCTV, Intruder detection system, Structured Cabling System, FO Cabling, Telephone cabling etc. to suit client requirements.
  • Preparation of FEED and detail design deliverables such as design basis, specifications datasheets, sizing calculations, block diagrams, location layouts, cable routing layouts, interconnection drawings etc. in collaboration with designers.
  • Manage telecom design teams across FEED, detailed design, and EPC phases of oil & gas projects.
  • Carry out bid evaluation/ vendor document review and approval.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams (instrumentation, process, electrical, safety) to ensure system integration and compliance with project interfaces.
  • Prepare and manage telecom engineering deliverables, man-hour budgets, and schedules.
  • Conduct site surveys, equipment selection, and vendor management to facilitate seamless installation and commissioning of telecom networks.
  • Interface with clients, project stakeholders, and vendors to gather requirements, present design reviews, and resolve technical issues.
  • Evaluate vendor technical proposals, conduct FATs (Factory Acceptance Tests), and support commissioning and start-up activities.
  • Ensure compliance with international and regional standards like NEC, IEC, IEEE, ITU, and oil and gas-specific telecom codes

Qualifications:

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, or related discipline.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunication or Electronic Engineering
  • 10+ years of experience in telecom engineering within the oil and gas sector, particularly onshore and offshore projects in the Middle East.
  • Proven expertise in telecom technologies such as LAN/WAN, radio communication, fiber optics, CCTV, Access Control Systems, and IP telephony.
  • Familiarity with project types including EPC, FEED, PMC, and detailed engineering phases in large-scale oil and gas infrastructure projects like gas processing plants and offshore platforms.
  • Strong knowledge of telecom industry standards and protocols along with proficiency in design and simulation software.
  • Excellent leadership, communication skills, and ability to work under demanding project environments. Proficiency in English is mandatory.

Skills:

  • Proficient with AutoCAD, SmartPlant, Revit, or similar design tools.
  • Deep knowledge of telecom systems used in oil & gas (PA/GA, CCTV, SCADA comms, microwave links).
  • Familiarity with hazardous area equipment selection and installation practices.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills with experience working in multicultural project environments.
