Who are we?

We’re Standard Life, a retirement specialist focused entirely on retirement savings and income. We champion the belief that everyone’s journey to and through retirement can be better, and for more than 200 years, we’ve been helping our customers plan and prepare for their financial futures.

Life today is increasingly complicated, uncertain and unpredictable. People move through different careers, face unexpected moments and navigate important choices. We offer our colleagues flexibility, trust and benefits that work for whatever life brings. In return we expect curiosity, connection, accountability and high standards. We make room for what matters - so you can bring your best, every day.

The role

As Technology Solutions Lead for B2B and Retail Intermediated Digital, you will be the lead technology partner for a business-aligned digital function focused on adviser, partner and intermediated customer outcomes. You will translate product and commercial priorities into coherent technical solutions and executable delivery plans, working across Digital, Product, Architecture, Data, API and Integration teams, core platform owners and third-party suppliers.
Your initial focus will include the adviser digital ecosystem and emerging B2B strategy priorities, together with reusable integrations that connect external partners and adviser technologies to Standard Life services and data. The remit is deliberately broader than any single journey or platform and will evolve with the B2B roadmap.
You will own the end-to-end technical view for agreed initiatives, take designs to buildable detail, identify dependencies and risks early, and support teams through delivery, governance and route to live. This is a hands-on technical leadership role: you will challenge constructively, help solve difficult problems and ensure solutions are secure, resilient, supportable and aligned with strategic architecture and engineering standards.

Key accountabilities:

  • Partner with B2B and Retail Intermediated Digital leaders and Product Owners to translate adviser, partner and commercial outcomes into clear technical options, target designs and prioritised delivery backlogs.
  • Own the end-to-end technical solution for agreed initiatives across digital experiences, APIs, integration, data, identity, cloud services, core platforms and third-party technologies, taking designs to buildable detail.
  • Provide technical leadership across squads, platform teams, architects and suppliers, aligning dependencies, resolving technical ambiguity and driving complex issues through to clear decisions and outcomes.
  • Shape reusable integration capabilities for advisers, partners and distribution channels, avoiding unnecessary point solutions and aligning change to the Digital Spine, shared data and API direction.
  • Work with Product Owners and Delivery Leads to create credible plans, sequence technical work, manage delivery risks and maintain a clear view of readiness, dependencies and technical outcomes.
  • Apply and promote modern engineering practices including secure-by-design development, DevSecOps, automated testing, CI/CD, infrastructure as code, observability and reliable route-to-live controls.
  • Ensure solutions meet non-functional requirements for security, resilience, performance, availability, recoverability, data protection, supportability and regulatory control.
  • Navigate architecture, security, service and design governance, recording significant decisions and ensuring exceptions or technical debt have visible owners and proportionate remediation plans.
  • Use evidence to assess solution options and trade-offs across customer and adviser value, delivery feasibility, reuse, whole-life cost, operational risk and supplier impact.
  • Coach engineers and technical leads, share reusable patterns and learning, and contribute to stronger engineering capability across Digital Engineering and delivery partners.

What are we looking for?

  • Strong experience providing end-to-end technical leadership for digital products, platforms or complex technology-enabled change, ideally in adviser, intermediary, partner or other B2B environments.
  • Broad technical knowledge across modern digital applications, APIs, integration, data and cloud technologies, with the ability to work effectively across both strategic platforms and legacy estates.
  • Experience translating business, product and customer outcomes into solution options, target designs, technical backlogs and credible delivery plans involving multiple teams and suppliers.
  • Practical knowledge of modern software engineering and operational practices, including secure development, DevSecOps, CI/CD, automated testing, observability, resilience and production support.
  • Strong communication, technical judgement and stakeholder leadership, with the ability to simplify complex issues, challenge constructively and align business, architecture, engineering and delivery stakeholders around clear decisions.

We want to hire the whole version of you.

We are committed to ensuring that everyone feels accepted and welcome applicants from all backgrounds. If your experience looks different from what we’ve advertised and you believe that you can bring value to the role, we’d love to hear from you.

If you require any adjustments to the recruitment process, please let us know so we can help you to be at your best.

We’re reviewing applications as they come in, so apply early to avoid missing out.
