About us:
TWI provides a global source of assurance to its Professional and Industrial members world-wide, who are engaged in managing the full life cycle of critical engineering systems. We help our Members and customers design, manufacture, operate, repair, life extend and decommission, some of the most complex, high-performing and safety critical equipment and assets in the world - including in the space, aerospace, nuclear, defence, and energy sectors, through world-leading innovation and problem solving.
We are embarking on a strategic refocus and to help us do this, we have produced a Technology Roadmap and associated processes to guide our research and ensure we develop the key technological capabilities that will lead to growing impact for our Members.
Description of role:
This business-critical role brings clarity of direction to a programme of numerous R&D projects and investments via the coordination of input from TWI staff, TWI’s Key Accounts and TWI’s Research Board. The vehicle for this direction setting is TWI’s Technology Roadmap, and continual updating is required by testing it against Member need, to guide an accompanying, annually refreshed programme of research investments. This influencing role requires astute people and commercial skills and proven ability to use new technology to create industrial benefit.
This includes steering investments of Member funding through the Core Research Programme and public funded R&D grants, into a £multi-million annual programme, capable of generating consistent and demonstrable impact for Members and tangibly contributing to TWI’s future strategy. The role will provide the skills and resource to:
- Provide direction by engaging key stakeholders with the Roadmap, via regular refreshes co-developed with staff, Key Account Members and TWI’s Research Board.
- Provide strategic steering to an integrated investment programme using Member funds, with public funding support and collaboration with suitable third parties.
- Provide oversight to delivery of the technical outputs and Member satisfaction, to time, cost and quality expectations, and drive continuous improvement of quality assurance processes.
- Produce an Annual Report on prior-year activities, technology impact and a forward forecast of benefit to Members, to support demonstrable technology transfer into industry.
- Coordinate a programme of roadmapping workshops with our key accounts, to seek out overlaps and opportunities to align Member investments with TWI’s.
