This role provides the successful candidate with the opportunity to:

  • Join a market leading, top tier practice in Brisbane
  • Collaborate and contribute to a successful and impactful team
  • Work on large, complex matters for a variety of clients

An opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated lawyer/Senior Associate to join our IP & Technology practice. This role is based in our Brisbane office, and will see you working at the forefront of complex technology and outsourcing projects for our Australian and internationally based clients.  You will also be involved in advising on a range of related issues including intellectual property, privacy and artificial intelligence.

Working closely with Partners Simon Newcomb and Cameron Gascoyne as part of a driven, and dynamic team, this role will work across both private and public sectors with a shared vision of shaping Australia’s future business, industry and consumer landscape through transformative work and revolutionary thinking. Simon is also our Head of AI, leading how the firm adopts and uses AI in its own practice. That means you will work in a team where AI tools are part of how legal work actually gets done, alongside the partner driving that change. To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Minimum 4 years post-qualification experience in a private practice environment
  • A strong academic record of achievement
  • Exceptional technical (especially contract drafting) skills
  • A capacity for superior written and verbal expression and an aptitude for reshaping and expressing complex concepts in a concise and intelligent way
  • Creativity, imagination and the capacity for unconventional problem-solving
  • Prior experience with technology contracts is not essential, although ideally you will have an interest in technology trends and the legal and regulatory issues arising from emerging technologies.

In addition to this, we are looking for someone who has:

  • A high level of attention to detail and an ability to draft clear, commercially orientated, and incisive advice
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills for building client relationships
  • A naturally collegiate mindset and positive attitude, which prioritises respect for peers and collaborative working

Intellectual Property and Technology team

Our high performing Intellectual Property and Technology team is one of Australia's largest and most experienced specialist groups and works at the forefront of rapid regulatory and technological change.

What We Do

We are one of Australia's oldest and largest law firms, with offices in six cities, nearly 200 partners, and a full range of legal services for large private sector and government clients. But we're more interested in talking about you, and with you. It's why, wherever you are, we give you advice that connects with you. Advice that isn't just a one-size-fits-all solution taken off a shelf, but that reflects who you are, and what you need. Advice created by lawyers with different experiences and different views, but united by an entrepreneurial spirit, a can-do attitude, confidence in each other, and pride in helping you achieve. As you might have noticed, we like speaking plainly. While we like thinking creatively to help you, we won't give you an answer hidden by legal jargon, or that doesn't reflect our honest opinion. Our clients value that, and trust us with their most important work. And we work hard to deserve that trust
