The Role
Drive early-stage technology from feasibility to prototype: design experiments, build demonstrators, model and analyse data, evaluate trade-offs and risks, and communicate results to guide product innovation. Work cross-discipline across electronics, sensors, algorithms and measurement systems to validate and advance novel concepts for future products.
Summary Generated by Built In
For over four decades, Cirrus Logic has been propelled by the top engineers in mixed-signal processing. Our rockstar team thrives on solving complex challenges with innovative end-user solutions for the world's top consumer brands. Cirrus Logic is also known for its award-winning culture, built on a foundation of inclusion and fairness, meaningful community engagement, and delivering enjoyable employee experiences at every turn. But we couldn’t do it without our extraordinary workforce – and that’s where you come in. Join our team and help us continue to make Cirrus Logic an exceptional place to grow your career!

We are seeking a highly motivated technologist to join our Advanced Technology team in Edinburgh. This role focuses on exploring, developing and demonstrating novel technology and system architecture concepts for future product differentiation in a fast-moving, exploratory environment.

Working in close collaboration with senior technical leaders, you will take early-stage ideas through feasibility assessment, modelling, prototyping, experimentation and demonstration. You will evaluate the practicality of new approaches, identify key risks and trade-offs, and find pragmatic ways to combine mathematics, sensors, electronics, data analysis and algorithms to address complex problems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and advance new technology concepts from early-stage ideas through to demonstrated feasibility
  • Assess the feasibility and practicality of novel approaches, identifying key risks, trade-offs and fundamental limitations
  • Develop prototypes, experimental platforms and proof-of-concept demonstrators to evaluate new technologies and solutions and showcase their value to customers
  • Define and execute experiments, analyse data, and drive lab-based validation to characterise performance, validate hypotheses, and guide technical direction
  • Develop models, algorithms and analysis techniques to investigate new concepts and address complex problems
  • Iterate quickly when results do not meet expectations, refining concepts, prototypes and methodologies to converge on viable solutions
  • Present findings clearly and contribute to technical reviews through effective communication and documentation
  • Directly contribute to product competitiveness by establishing that new features and solutions are feasible, advantageous and robust for product use, while identifying high-value opportunities for future innovation

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Degree in Electrical / Electronic Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science or related discipline (preferably 2:1 or better); advanced degree (MSc/PhD) advantageous
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills, with the ability to understand new concepts quickly, ask the right questions and fill gaps in incomplete problem definitions
  • Ability to work across disciplines, combining electronics, algorithms, modelling and system-level thinking
  • Proven experience developing prototypes and experimental systems to evaluate new ideas and technologies
  • Hands-on lab experience, including development of measurement methodologies and systems, test automation, experimental characterisation, and data analysis
  • Experience with MATLAB, Python or similar tools for modelling, data analysis, prototyping and automation
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to expose both conceptual and implementation issues quickly and iterate toward solutions
  • Pragmatic approach to engineering, making appropriate trade-offs to prove concepts efficiently without getting lost in unnecessary detail
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to present findings clearly, support technical discussions and influence direction across the team

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

  • Experience working with sensors, signal processing, or data-driven algorithms
  • Experience developing novel measurement techniques or methodologies for characterising emerging technologies
  • Experience applying statistical analysis, data visualisation, or advanced data-processing techniques to experimental data
  • Experience developing customer demonstrations to showcase the value of new concepts and technologies
  • Demonstrated ability to rapidly learn and apply new tools, technologies, and techniques to solve unfamiliar problems

Export control restrictions based upon applicable laws and regulations would prohibit candidates who are nationals of certain embargoed countries from working in this position without Cirrus Logic first obtaining an export license.  Candidates for this role must be able to access technical data without a requirement for an export license. We are unable to sponsor or obtain export licenses for this role.

At Cirrus Logic, we believe that diversity drives innovation, and we are committed to encouraging an open and collaborative culture where different approaches, ideas, and points of view are respected and valued. We aim to promote a workplace where everyone can contribute irrespective of race, colour, national origin, religion or belief, gender or gender identity, sexual orientation, age, marital status, pregnancy status, or disability.

Skills Required

  • Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science or related discipline (preferably 2:1 or better)
  • Advanced degree (MSc/PhD)
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills
  • Ability to work across disciplines combining electronics, algorithms, modelling and system-level thinking
  • Proven experience developing prototypes and experimental systems
  • Hands-on lab experience including development of measurement methodologies, test automation, experimental characterisation, and data analysis
  • Experience with MATLAB, Python or similar tools for modelling, data analysis, prototyping and automation
  • Strong problem-solving skills and pragmatic engineering judgment
  • Strong communication skills, ability to present findings and influence technical direction
  • Experience working with sensors, signal processing, or data-driven algorithms
  • Experience developing novel measurement techniques or methodologies for characterising emerging technologies
  • Experience applying statistical analysis, data visualisation, or advanced data-processing techniques to experimental data
  • Experience developing customer demonstrations to showcase new concepts and technologies
  • Demonstrated ability to rapidly learn and apply new tools, technologies, and techniques
