The Role
Technician, Satellite Communications, Represented
SES operates Geosynchronous Orbit (GEO), Middle Earth Orbit (MEO), High Throughput Satellite (HTS) satellites. We support industries including: cruise lines, airlines, unmanned aerial vehicles, and humanitarian missions. In this role you will ensure local business continuity needs are met. You will provide first-level technical support for all customer service, operation, installation, and maintenance processes at a Satellite Ground Station. You will be responsible for maintaining service availability by monitoring, operating, troubleshooting, and supporting satellite communications equipment at Ground Stations located throughout the Western Hemisphere.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES / KEY RESULT AREAS
  • Perform preventative maintenance and routine repair of electronic and electromechanical equipment
  • Support engineering and program management to provide specifications, measurements, hardware evaluations, risk assessment, and environmental factors
  • Perform system to component level troubleshooting
  • Perform the installation, maintenance, testing, and calibration of satellite ground operations equipment such as: cables, high-power amplifiers, fiber-optic systems, frequency converters, path switching units, antenna control systems, low-noise amplifiers, and low-noise block downconverters, basebands, digital platform systems, and waveguide assemblies
  • Support Network Operations Center (NOC) calls/emails including responding to equipment, station, facility, and Monitor & Control (M&C) alarms
  • Meet 99.98% teleport services and 100% of Telemetry, Tracking, and Control availability

  • Exhibits a proactive and professional approach when supporting internal and external stakeholders. Prioritizes user experience and communicates clearly to resolve service-impacting issues efficiently.
  • Capable of quickly assessing criticality and impact of technical issues to determine urgency. Balances planned activities with real-time troubleshooting to maintain uninterrupted service operations.
  • Applies analytical thinking and technical knowledge to diagnose and resolve complex issues in satellite communications systems.
  • Works collaboratively with colleagues to support 24/7 operations. Shares knowledge, supports team goals, and contributes to a positive work environment.
  • Displays initiative and a strong sense of ownership, following through on responsibilities and actively seeking opportunities to improve system reliability and processes.
  • Communicates clearly and concisely in both written reports and verbal updates.
  • Demonstrates sensitivity and respect when interacting with multinational teams and partners. Understands and adapts to cultural differences in communication and workflow expectations in a global operations environment

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
  • Associate's degree in RF Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or related field (equivalent combination of experience and education will also be considered)
  • Minimum 1 year of relevant professional experience
  • Experience with teleport satellite ground operations systems
  • Experience with satellite communications, broadband, telecommunications, digital platforms, high throughput satellites, and networking systems
  • Familiar with RF drawings and diagrams
  • Ability to lift 50lbs, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces
  • Ability to travel domestically up to10% of the time
  • Ability to be on call
  • Ideally some experience in network programming, M&C programming as well as ability to read read system block diagrams and schematics

This is a union position. The salary range for this full-time position is $80,000.00 + bonus + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on this job posting reflects the target salary for new hires in Woodbine, MD. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
