As a Technical Writer supporting Defense Programs at Auterion, you will play a critical role in translating advanced autonomy, robotics, and communications systems into clear, defensible, and deployable documentation for U.S. Government customers.
This role goes beyond traditional documentation. You will support the full lifecycle of DoD engagement, from proposal development and requirements shaping to integration, test, and operational deployment, ensuring our technology is clearly understood, properly scoped, and successfully adopted by program offices, primes, and warfighters.
You will work at the intersection of engineering, product, and go-to-market teams to produce documentation that enables:
- Program capture and contract award
- Successful safety and technical reviews
- Repeatable, scalable field deployment
- Contribute to and own portions of RFI/RFP/RFQ responses, including technical volumes, system descriptions, and compliance matrices
- Translate product capabilities into government-aligned language (CONOPS, requirements, use cases)
- Support capture teams in shaping clear, credible, and winnable technical narratives
- Develop and maintain documentation required for DoD programs, including:
- System architecture descriptions
- Interface control documents (ICDs)
- Test plans and validation reports
- Operator and maintenance manuals
- Support safety reviews and airworthiness processes, including hazard analyses and risk documentation
- Assist in development of artifacts supporting RMF / ATO, cybersecurity, and compliance requirements (as applicable)
- Create documentation enabling field deployment and integration with OEMs, primes, and government stakeholders
- Translate FDE and flight-ops learnings into repeatable, standardized documentation
- Ensure documentation supports real-world operational use, not just theoretical capability
- Work closely with engineering, solutions, and flight operations to ensure documentation reflects actual system behavior and constraints
- Partner with product teams to ensure new capabilities are documented in a way that supports procurement and deployment
- Capture and formalize tribal knowledge into scalable documentation assets
- Establish and maintain documentation structures that support rapid iteration and program scaling
- Drive consistency across technical, proposal, and operational documentation
- 5+ years of experience in technical writing, preferably in a startup environment supporting defense, aerospace, robotics, or embedded systems
- Demonstrated experience supporting DoD or government programs, including proposal writing or contract deliverables
- Strong understanding of how technical systems are evaluated in government procurement and program reviews
- Experience developing documentation for complex hardware/software systems
- Ability to quickly understand and communicate multi-domain systems (autonomy, RF, networking, etc.)
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple parallel workstreams
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
- Experience working in cross-functional, fast-paced environments (startups or scale-ups is a plus)
- Familiarity with autonomy, UAV systems, or tactical communications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Technical Communication, or a related field
