Ardent is seeking a Technical Writer to join our team.  

This is a hybrid position located in the Washington DC area. 

Position Description:

Ardent is seeking a Technical Writer with expertise in creating clear, concise, and accurate documentation to support a high-level readiness and operations program. The ideal candidate will have experience in drafting technical manuals, standard operating procedures (SOPs), training materials, and other operational documents that communicate complex concepts effectively to diverse audiences.

The Technical Writer will work within a dynamic team, collaborating with subject matter experts to produce and update technical documentation for internal stakeholders. This role is critical in ensuring that all documentation is accurate, accessible, and adheres to organization standards.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Technical Documentation:
    • Develop, write, and edit technical documentation, including user manuals, SOPs, training materials, reports, and system specifications.
    • Ensure all documentation is clear, accurate, and tailored to both technical and non-technical audiences.
    • Translate complex concepts and processes into easy-to-understand language, diagrams, and visuals.
  • Collaboration with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs):
    • Work closely with subject matter experts, engineers, and project managers to gather information and ensure documentation aligns with operational and technical requirements.
    • Interview SMEs to clarify technical processes and obtain necessary details for documentation.
  • Document Maintenance:
    • Review and update existing documentation to ensure accuracy and relevance in light of changing operational procedures or system updates.
    • Develop templates and maintain document version control to ensure consistency and compliance with organization standards.
  • Quality Assurance:
    • Ensure that all documentation meets internal standards for clarity, quality, and style.
    • Perform regular proofreading and editing to eliminate errors, inconsistencies, and ambiguities.
  • Stakeholder Communication:
    • Engage with internal teams to gather feedback on existing documents and propose improvements based on operational needs.
    • Present and distribute final documentation to relevant stakeholders in a timely manner.
  • Formatting and Presentation:
    • Create and maintain visually appealing documentation with proper formatting, including diagrams, tables, charts, and other visual aids.
    • Use documentation tools and software such as MS Word, Visio, or other industry-standard software to create and manage documents.

Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Technical Writing, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in technical writing or related field, with a focus on producing operational and technical documentation.
  • Strong writing and editing skills with an ability to present complex technical information clearly and concisely.
  • Proficiency in documentation tools such as Microsoft Word, Visio, and other technical writing software.
  • High level of attention to detail to ensure documentation is accurate, clear, and error-free.
  • Experience working closely with cross-functional teams, particularly with engineers, analysts, and other technical experts.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to translate technical language into easily understandable formats.
