GTI Energy is re-establishing technical writing capabilities within our organization. We are seeking a dynamic and motivated Technical Writer to join our project management team. In this position, you will use your technical communication skills to assist scientists and engineers in creating technical reports and documents for our customers, for projects in research, demonstration, or development of new technologies.

Work Location
The position is approved to be fully remote or can be based in the Chicagoland area at the GTI Energy Headquarters. We offer a hybrid/core work week, where employees are remote Mondays and Fridays, and required to be on-site Tuesday through Thursday. If remote, occasional travel (20% or less) to the headquarters in Chicagoland may be required.
Primary Responsibilities
- Interviewing subject matter experts, and coordinating the documentation effort throughout a research project.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts to ensure technical content is accurate, easy to understand, and formatted in a uniform and consistent tone.
- Creating and revising documents to be consistent with established, customer-directed document format and quality style guides to ensure consistency in presentation, tone, and style
- Verifying documents are complete, concise, clear, and that appropriate grammar and format is used
- May provide occasional proposal support, but will not be the primary objective of this position
- Development or improvement of standard work processes around content generation, modification, quality control, and version control.
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics
- Demonstrated successful interpersonal communication skills, to include experience working in a team environment
- Ability to quickly grasp complex technical concepts and make them easily understandable in text and/or figures.
- Experience in document development, with demonstrated writing, editing, formatting, design, and proofreading skills
- Knowledge of interviewing for document content
- Strong working knowledge and experience with Microsoft products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio. Familiarity with AdobePro is also desirable.
- Ability to establish priorities, work independently, and proceed with objectives without supervision.
- Ability to support and meet dynamic and tight deadlines
- Ability to function effectively in a telework environment where coordination and communication with coworkers and colleagues is largely through use of electronic tele-conference tools (i.e., Microsoft Teams).
- Experience in the energy industry a plus
Education and Experience
- Three (3) or more years of experience writing technical documentation
- Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Journalism, or appropriate technical discipline with an emphasis on technical communication
