Overview:
The Technical Writer must possess advanced writing and editing skills to communicate complex technical information clearly and concisely across the SOCOM Information Environment (SIE). This position plays a critical role in standardizing operations by collaborating directly with government service owners and subject-matter experts (SMEs). The candidate will elicit, structure, and refine highly detailed technical workflows into formal Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Work Instructions, templates, and other vital program documentation.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Create, format, and edit high-quality Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Work Instructions, templates, manuals, and technical reports.
- Conduct interviews and interactive sessions with government service owners, engineers, and subject-matter experts to extract complex technical information and translate it into clear, user-friendly documentation.
- Review, revise, and maintain existing documentation portfolios to ensure consistency, clarity, accuracy, and alignment with SIE standards.
- Design professional layouts, flowcharts, and diagrams using standard documentation suites to visually support complex technical concepts.
- Manage the lifecycle of document revisions, ensuring all stakeholders have access to the latest approved templates and guides.
- Ensure all developed materials adhere to organizational formatting standards, security guidelines, and federal plain-language requirements.

Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university (preferably in English, Technical Writing, Communications, Information Technology, or a related field); experience will be considered on a year-for-year basis in lieu of formal education.
- Relevant professional experience, specifically the performance of technical writing and documentation functions in support of a government agency,
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Mastery of grammar, technical terminology, and style guides to distill complex IT and engineering data into concise prose.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills, with a proven ability to ask targeted questions to extract details from busy technical experts.
- Deep proficiency in document creation and design tools, specifically Microsoft Word (advanced formatting and templates), Adobe Acrobat Professional, and Microsoft PowerPoint.
- Basic understanding of IT infrastructure, enterprise environments, and common technical concepts to facilitate productive conversations with technical teams.
- Exceptional attention to detail regarding formatting, version tracking, and consistent terminology.
