The Technical Writer will support Mississippi Department of Human Services (MDHS) on the Technical Documentation Improvement project. This role focuses on developing, revising, and maintaining information security governance documentation, including policies, standards, and procedures that align with established cybersecurity frameworks. The Technical Writer will produce clear, accurate, and enforceable documentation for use by technical staff, management, auditors, and external reviewers. This position requires close collaboration with subject matter experts to ensure organizational processes and controls are properly documented. The role also supports document version control and periodic review.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and revise information security policies.
  • Develop technical standards supporting approved security policies.
  • Develop operational procedures and implementation guidance.
  • Create security baselines and configuration documentation.
  • Develop compliance documentation for technical accuracy, consistency, completeness, and enforceability.
  • Recommend improvements to governance documentation structure and organization.
  • Produce clear documentation suitable for technical staff, management, auditors, and external reviewers.
  • Work with subject matter experts to accurately document existing processes and required controls.
  • Maintain document version control and support periodic review.

Requirements
Minimum Qualifications: Candidates must meet all minimum qualifications.
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Technical writing experience involving cybersecurity or IT governance.
Demonstrated senior level experience with the following:
  • NIST Cybersecurity Framework
  • NIST SP 800-53
  • IRS Publication 1075
  • CIS Critical Security Controls
  • Security governance and risk management
  • Identity and access management
  • Incident response
  • Vulnerability management
  • Disaster recovery and business continuity
  • Vendor risk management
  • Security awareness and training
  • Policy lifecycle management
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience writing documentation aligned with the NIST Cybersecurity Framework, NIST SP 800-53, and IRS Publication 1075.
  • CISSP, CISA, CGRC, Security+, or equivalent certifications.
Additional Requirements:
  • Local candidates only; remote or hybrid candidates will not be considered.
  • Standard criminal background check required.
Work Location and Schedule:

Location: 100% onsite in Jackson, MS.
Schedule: Monday through Friday, within an 8 AM to 8 PM window, 40 hours per week.
Work Arrangement: Onsite only; remote or hybrid candidates will not be considered.
