The Role

We’re looking for a Technical Writer to join our Developer Documentation team, within BigCommerce’s Education org. This team helps set our Go-to-Market educational content strategy, and partners with our Product & Engineering teams to make content an interactive experience that ensures we're meeting the needs of successfully educating, informing, and guiding developers and partners. The ideal candidate has a technical background that enables her or him to easily outline content strategies, create in-depth documentation and guides, and interact with engineers, product managers, technical program managers and customer-facing teams.

What You’ll Do:

  • Develop and test tutorials, guides, and code samples tailored to developers and internal engineering and architect teams.

  • Create content for both new and experienced developers with minimal direction. 

  • Support the Education team in creating and maintaining developer and user content, including documentation and training materials.

  • Mentor junior technical writers to foster a transparent and collaborative knowledge-sharing environment

  • Identify and connect with key stakeholders within the company, including Product and Engineering, Strategic Business Development, Professional Services, and Marketing.

Who You Are: 

  • 3+ years related professional experience in the technology industry as an engineer, technical product manager, developer community manager, developer advocate, developer educator, technical writer, or technically minded entrepreneur, or similar roles.

  • 3+ years of experience with e-commerce tools and applications, inclusive of SaaS and open source storefronts, headless implementations, POS, PIM, OMS, ERP, and payment gateways.

  • Great understanding of APIs and front-end development tools; capable of running API requests when given API docs or a Postman library.

  • Good understanding of local development practices; able to run and modify a site locally using popular frameworks like Next.js and Nuxt.js, comfortable with HTML / CSS / JS.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to explain complex topics to a range of audiences.

  • Proactive, transparent communicator who is mindful of stakeholder needs.

  • Great understanding of GitHub.

  • Extremely comfortable learning new things and asking for help from others.

  • Able to manage time effectively, juggling multiple projects and deliverables simultaneously.
