Johnson Controls is a smart buildings company. We provide complete hardware and software solutions to make buildings safer, more comfortable, and more efficient.
Our Technical Writing org is centralized in Cork, Ireland with a team of 80+ writers at all experience levels. We do more than just write. As a uniquely large technical communication department, we have built our own DocOps processes: authoring tooling, publishing platform, CCMS, style guide, review/editing, illustration, patents. The majority of our content is authored in DITA XML but we also support other authoring tools such as InDesign, Framemaker and Madcap Flare.
The Technical Writing org have a track record of innovation within the company. We have won innovation competitions and had several patents granted.
Currently we are looking for a Technical Writer to join us on a 12-month FTC.
What you will do
Writing content for a business unit supporting program releases
Working closely with teams of engineers, developers, product management, marketing across the world
Illustrating technical drawings
Providing DocOps support. You will have the opportunity to support one of our process teams. Previous knowledge is a bonus but not a requirement
What we look for
0-2 years of writing experience.
Educational background in English, Journalism, Technical Communications, Languages, Software & Hardware Engineering, Multimedia or Science.
Excellent writing skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You will be working closely with the development and product management teams
Technical proficiency
An interest in technology
Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
