Sonatus is seeking a highly motivated Technical Writer with a passion for excellence and advancing our solution by developing superior documentations. The individual will be working closely with cross-functional teams to create high-quality technical documentation for our software which is developed to provide a unique end to end solution from the vehicle to the cloud.


Location-wise, candidates should already reside within the SF/Bay Area, CA region as we promote a hybrid work model with 2-3-days in office requirement (for synergy, collaboration, engagement, and camaraderie with peers and management).

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Create and edit technical documentation for our automotive solution related software products, including user manuals, installation guide, API documentation, and release notes. 
  • Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to gather information and create technical content. 
  • Work with different teams to ensure that documentation is accurate, complete, and up-to-date. 
  • Act as the bridge, and key liaison between program management, product and engineering teams.
  • Ensure that technical documentation is consistent with company standards and branding guidelines. 
  • Gather & internalize various technical specification and extract relevant information to create more user friendly and cliff note version of user guide for general consumption 
  • Review and edit technical content to ensure accuracy, clarity, and completeness. 
  • Publish and maintain technical documentation in various formats, such as PDF, HTML, and online help systems. 
  • You will work to develop a strategy to consolidate documentation, establish a more formal structure for our internal Confluence organization, naming of documents, formatting standards, etc. 
  • You’ll also partner with internal subject matter experts to write and manage documentation for core programs like engineering onboarding, enablement programs, as well as large scale product overviews.
  • Work hours are 30 hours/week.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Communications or a related field.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in technical writing for automotive and IT networking products; with evidence of exceptional abilities in task management, technical aptitude, and attention to detail in technical documentation of procedures.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, with a keen eye for detail. 
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills. 
  • Exemplary verbal and written communication skills, with a proficiency in English grammar, spelling and punctuation.
  • Mastery of GSuite & Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Visio and similar authoring tools
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, agile development environment. 
  • Thorough understanding and ability to use various editing software to create logical and easy to understand documents, leverage visual aid such as chart, diagram and picture to help deliver message
  • Ability to multi-task and manage workload to achieve project deliverable deadlines
  • Self-starter and ability to approach the role with a can-do, team player attitude.

Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge of automotive and IT networking technologies, including protocols, APIs, and architectures. 
  • Experience with topic-based writing concepts and markup language (e.g. HTML, XML or DITA XML)
  • Passionate about cars and possess a deep understanding of the automotive industry.
