Job Description:

This position is responsible for delivering technical training on Vertex solutions and creating online micro-learning to be published in the organization’s product education platform, Vertex University. The Technical Training Specialist will work collaboratively with Education team members and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to coordinate curriculum innovation and develop and maintain high-quality course content in support of Vertex’s tax software products.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work proactively with Education team members and SMEs to develop high-quality and engaging learning content for tax/technical subject matter.
  • Deliver effective instructor-led technical training content in adherence to defined learning objectives and high learner engagement.
  • Own the entire training engagement lifecycle, from training analysis, class preparation, live instruction and engagement close out.
  • Serve as a Vertex product SME when teaching classes.
  • Assist in developing and reviewing educational materials (for example, videos, quick reference guides, templates, checklists, process documents, etc.) supporting the release of new software products and services.
  • Effectively manage projects; stick to project schedules and communicate progress with team members throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Make recommendations to the Education team for new curriculum development and enhancements to the existing curriculum.
  • Provide consultation and technical assistance to internal and external groups, as needed.
  • Participate in the evaluation of training materials and training delivery.
  • Stay informed of industry trends (for example: microlearning techniques and gamification).
  • Act as a peer reviewer, as needed.
  • Occasionally travel to participate/instruct training at client sites, regional training centers, and/or customer conferences (up to 25%).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to understand complex concepts and translate to simplified learning topics.
  • Knowledge of educational models and theories, including instructional design (ADDIE, SAM/Agile) and adult learning theory.
  • Working knowledge of design tools such as: Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, and video editing software is a plus.
  • Knowledge of ERP systems, billing systems and/or software integrations is a plus.
  • Ability to effectively manage a class and encourage learner participation.
  • Ability to use effective instructional strategies to diffuse dominate learners and draw in quiet learners.
  • Excellent communication skills: both written and verbal.
  • Excellent presentation/instructor skills.
  • Strong project management and prioritization skills.
  • Display high motivation.
  • Ability to deliver effective and engaging technical learning programs.
  • Ability to produce micro learnings.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office packages.
  • Sufficient knowledge of business communication, including telephone, voicemail, and e-mail and operations of office machines, such as photocopier, scanner, and fax.
  • Ability to listen and understand information and communicate the same.
  • Must possess good organizational skills.
  • Able to lift twenty-five pounds.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in instructional Design/Technology, Educational Media, Training and Development, or related field.
  • Six (6) plus years of experience in teaching, curriculum design, online course development, consulting, customer success or a financial or technical role related to software implementations.
  • Experience working with a Learning Management System (LMS) is preferred.
  • Or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
