About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced Technical Support PC & Hardware professional to provide high-quality technical support for all aspects of personal computing hardware and peripherals. You will be responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining desktop PCs, laptops, printers, and other hardware devices. This role involves delivering on-site and remote support to ensure that the organization’s hardware runs smoothly, allowing employees to perform their tasks without disruption.

Key Responsibilities:PC Hardware Support and Troubleshooting

  • Provide technical support for desktop PCs, laptops, and peripheral devices, ensuring timely diagnosis and resolution of hardware-related issues.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware failures, including issues with motherboards, CPUs, RAM, power supplies, and storage devices.
  • Assist with hardware installations, including upgrades, replacements, and configuring new devices for end-users.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance on hardware, including cleaning, updates, and firmware upgrades to ensure optimal performance.
  • Identify, repair, and replace defective hardware components and ensure warranty processes are followed for defective devices.

Peripheral and Device Support

  • Support the installation, setup, and troubleshooting of peripheral devices, including printers, scanners, external drives, and monitors.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve connectivity issues related to external devices such as USB, Bluetooth, or networked printers.
  • Provide support for mobile device integration, ensuring proper synchronization and functionality with desktop/laptop systems.

Hardware Setup and Installation

  • Assist with setting up new computers, workstations, and other hardware for new employees, ensuring all necessary software and drivers are properly installed.
  • Configure desktop PCs, laptops, and printers to connect to local and remote networks (wired/wireless) according to company policies and security standards.
  • Install operating systems and required business applications on new hardware or after system recovery.

System Upgrades and Performance Optimization

  • Evaluate and recommend upgrades to existing hardware to improve performance, reduce downtime, or extend hardware life.
  • Perform hardware upgrades, such as adding RAM, replacing hard drives, installing new graphics cards, and other performance-enhancing modifications.
  • Monitor the performance of personal computing hardware and take corrective action to optimize performance and resolve any identified issues.

Troubleshooting and Incident Resolution

  • Respond to and resolve hardware-related support requests from end-users in a timely manner.
  • Diagnose issues remotely or in-person and provide effective solutions for hardware failures, network connectivity issues, and other technical problems.
  • Maintain a log of incidents and resolutions, escalating unresolved issues to senior technical staff or management when needed.
  • Provide end-user training and support on using hardware effectively and safely.

Documentation and Reporting

  • Document technical issues, resolutions, and hardware configurations to maintain a comprehensive history of support incidents.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records for hardware assets, including tracking repairs, upgrades, and replacements.
  • Generate reports on hardware performance, issues, and improvements for IT management to ensure effective decision-making.

Inventory Management

  • Manage and track hardware assets, including computers, peripherals, and related devices, ensuring all devices are properly tagged, inventoried, and documented.
  • Assist in maintaining inventory levels, ordering replacement parts, and ensuring timely availability of hardware when required.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and vendors for hardware procurement, repair services, and warranty claims.

Collaboration and Vendor Coordination

  • Work with other IT teams to coordinate hardware-related projects or system integrations.
  • Liaise with external vendors for hardware repairs, replacements, and maintenance services as needed.
  • Maintain relationships with hardware vendors to ensure timely delivery of equipment and manage the lifecycle of hardware assets.
Requirements
Qualifications and Skills:
  • Education: Associate's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent technical certifications and experience.
  • Experience:
    • 2-4 years of experience in PC hardware support, IT support, or a related technical support role.
    • Hands-on experience with diagnosing and repairing PCs, laptops, printers, and other hardware devices.
    • Familiarity with hardware installation, configuration, and troubleshooting procedures.
    • Experience in managing hardware inventories and asset tracking.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in working with various operating systems, including Windows, macOS, and Linux, in a hardware support capacity.
    • Knowledge of common hardware components (e.g., CPUs, RAM, storage devices, GPUs, and peripheral devices).
    • Understanding of networking basics (wired and wireless networks) and connectivity issues.
    • Familiarity with system imaging, cloning, and hardware deployment processes.
    • Basic knowledge of system performance optimization and hardware troubleshooting tools.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot technical issues efficiently.
    • Excellent communication skills to interact with end-users, explaining technical issues in simple terms.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Strong attention to detail and the ability to document technical issues and solutions accurately.
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Certifications (preferred):
    • CompTIA A+ certification or equivalent in hardware support.
    • Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician (MCDST) or similar certification.
    • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) for those working with networked hardware environments.
