About the Role

As part of the continued growth of our activities and the deployment of our photonic Quantum Processing Units (QPUs) to international customers, we are looking for a Technical Support & Operations Engineer to join our team.

You will contribute to the operational monitoring of Quandela's QPUs and other hardware products deployed at customer sites, ensuring their proper operation and supporting maintenance activities, both remotely and on site.

Working at the interface between Quandela's technical teams and system users, you will develop a broad understanding of our products, particularly the interactions between hardware equipment and software control interfaces. You will perform initial technical investigations when issues arise and involve the relevant technical experts when required.

The role combines technical support, maintenance, field interventions, training and continuous improvement in a complex and international technological environment.

Internal training will provide you with the specific knowledge required to understand our technology and systems. No previous experience in quantum computing is required.

As our support and maintenance activities are still being structured, you will also contribute to improving our processes, tools and operational methods.

Your Key Responsibilities:

System operations & technical support

You will contribute to maintaining the operational performance and availability of QPUs and other hardware products deployed at customer sites.

    • Monitor the operation and performance of installed systems.
    • Analyse operational data and identify anomalies or performance degradation.
    • Perform initial technical investigations to characterise issues and help determine the appropriate resolution path.
    • Follow up on technical incidents and corrective actions with the relevant teams.
    • Maintain accurate technical records of systems and interventions.
    • Provide remote technical support to customers and trained personnel working on the systems.

Maintenance & customer-site interventions

You will contribute to the preparation and follow-up of preventive and corrective maintenance activities.

    • Track maintenance schedules and anticipate upcoming interventions.
    • Identify the resources, equipment, spare parts and technical expertise required for each intervention.
    • Perform diagnostic, maintenance and system recovery operations according to established procedures.
    • Support technicians and technical experts remotely or on site during interventions.
    • Perform functional checks and testing following maintenance activities.
    • Track completed actions, outstanding issues and upcoming maintenance requirements.

The role involves business travel within France and internationally, with frequency and duration depending on the needs of our installed systems.

User training & technical guidance

You will help customers and technical operators become increasingly autonomous in operating and maintaining our QPUs.

    • Train users and technical operators on routine QPU operation and maintenance activities.
    • Support users in operating the systems and their control interfaces.
    • Share best practices for operation, troubleshooting and maintenance.
    • Contribute to the creation and improvement of training materials and technical documentation.

Documentation & continuous improvement

You will ensure the traceability of technical operations and contribute to structuring our support and maintenance activities.

    • Prepare technical monitoring, intervention and maintenance reports.
    • Maintain up-to-date technical documentation for installed systems.
    • Contribute to writing and improving diagnostic, maintenance and operating procedures.
    • Capitalise on field experience to improve reliability and facilitate future interventions.
    • Contribute to implementing tools and methods for the structured monitoring of our installed systems.

RequirementsEducation & experience
  • Master's degree in instrumentation, applied physics, optoelectronics or a related technical field.
  • The position is open to both experienced technicians and engineers with a strong interest in hands-on, operational activities.
  • Strong experience in operations, system integration, maintenance or technical support for complex systems is preferred.
  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary hardware/software environment is highly valued.
  • Experience supporting or maintaining technical equipment installed at customer sites would be an advantage.

Technical skills Required

  • Good understanding of complex technical systems combining hardware and software.
  • Knowledge of electronics, instrumentation and/or control systems.
  • Ability to analyse operational data and characterise technical issues.
  • Ability to perform diagnostic and maintenance operations according to established procedures.
  • Ability to identify and involve the appropriate technical experts when required.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to rigorously track interventions, deadlines and outstanding actions.
  • Ability to follow, write and improve technical procedures.
  • Professional fluency in English, both written and spoken, as you will interact directly with international customers and colleagues, deliver training sessions and produce technical documentation.
  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally.
Nice to have
  • Knowledge of optics, photonics and/or cryogenics.
  • Hands-on experience with optical systems, including basic optical alignment.
  • Experience operating or maintaining cryogenic systems.
  • Basic programming or scripting skills, particularly Python.
  • Experience maintaining scientific or industrial equipment.
  • Experience delivering technical training to users or operators.

Benefits
  • Competitive salary, flexible based on your experience
  • Profit-sharing & company savings plan
  • 100% health coverage (Alan)
  • 50% transport reimbursement or sustainable mobility bonus
  • Meal vouchers (Swile), Gymlib fitness support
  • Childcare assistance & referral bonuses (€1,000–€2,000)
What we offer
  • A meaningful role with real ownership, from day one
  • A team eager to collaborate and grow with you
  • A hybrid work model (3 days/week onsite in Massy, 1 day in Paris, 1 to 2 days remotely)
  • Daily exposure to the entire quantum stack — from high-level APIs to low-level firmware, and everything in between.
Process
  • Talent Acquisition Interview (30' - 45')
  • Hiring Manager Interview (45')
  • Use Case (a live use case or one to be prepared at home and presented afterward)
  • Meeting with the teams
  • 2 reference check
