Job Description:
Microchip Technology is seeking an experienced Technical Staff Engineer to provide technical leadership for the High Power Solutions (HPS) Business Unit. This highly visible role combines deep technical expertise, customer engagement, and strategic market support to accelerate growth across high-power semiconductor and power conversion applications.
The successful candidate will serve as a recognized technical authority supporting customers, field sales, applications teams, and business development worldwide. This individual will influence product direction, drive design wins, and help define system-level solutions spanning Silicon Carbide (SiC), Power Modules, IGBTs, Gate Drivers, and related high-power technologies.
The role offers broad exposure to strategic growth markets including Industrial Infrastructure, AI Power Infrastructure, Semiconductor Capital Equipment, Grid & Energy, Renewable Energy, Medical, and Commercial Transportation.
As business needs evolve, this role may expand to include broader technical and organizational leadership responsibilities within the global Subject Matter Expert organization, including mentorship, team development, and functional leadership opportunities.
- Drive strategic customer engagements and design wins by providing application expertise, system-level guidance, and technical leadership across key growth markets.
- Serve as a technical escalation point for complex customer challenges and provide recommendations on system architectures, power topologies, and component selection.
- Develop and deliver technical content including presentations, application notes, white papers, and training materials to support customers and internal teams.
- Mentor engineers and contribute to the continued growth of technical capabilities and engineering excellence across the HPS organization. Drive knowledge sharing, talent development, and technical best practices across a globally distributed engineering team.
- Provide leadership by aligning cross-functional teams, driving accountability, and helping remove barriers to customer success and business growth.
- Partner with Business Development Managers, Product Marketing, and Applications Engineering to identify market opportunities, support strategic accounts, and accelerate business growth.
- Gather customer and market intelligence, providing structured feedback to Product Line Management and Product Development teams to influence future products and technology roadmaps.
- Represent HPS in customer meetings, technical workshops, conferences, and industry events worldwide.
- Lead technical strategy discussions with executive-level customer stakeholders and coordinate cross-functional engagement plans for strategic opportunities.
- Collaborate with Applications Engineering teams to develop evaluation boards, demonstration platforms, and reference designs.
- Support new product introductions, application validation, and system characterization activities.
- Assist customers with simulation, design optimization, and implementation of high-power conversion systems.
- Identify capability gaps, propose improvement initiatives, and help establish processes that improve the effectiveness and scalability of the Subject Matter Expert organization.
- Mentor and develop engineers across regions, helping build the next generation of technical leaders.
- Drive consistency in technical engagement models, best practices, and customer support methodologies worldwide.
- Lead cross-functional initiatives that improve organizational effectiveness, customer success, and commercial execution.

- Minimum of 10 years of experience in Applications Engineering, Field Applications Engineering, Power Electronics Design, System Architecture, or related technical disciplines.
- Strong experience with high-voltage and high-power semiconductor technologies, including Silicon Carbide (SiC), IGBTs, Power Modules, or related power devices.
- Demonstrated expertise in high-voltage and high-power conversion systems, including system architecture, power topology selection, and component integration.
- Proficiency with PCB design tools.
- Experience using circuit- and system-level simulation tools.
- Excellent knowledge of laboratory equipment and test methodologies, including analysis and interpretation of results.
- Experience presenting technical information to customers, field teams, and executive audiences.
- Strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to work effectively with global teams.
- Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional technical teams, projects, or strategic initiatives without direct management authority.
- Proven ability to mentor engineers, develop technical talent, and influence organizational outcomes across multiple functions and regions.
