033220 Technical Specialist (Open)Job Description:
Reporting to the Director of Global Product Safety and Compliance, this role leads and oversees Greif’s packaging and technical advice program. The Product Technical Specialist is the primary point of contact for packaging advice requests in EMEA/APAC/South America regions. This role has a deep technical understanding of Greif’s packaging portfolio and can recommend packaging to new customers, supports complaint investigations and interfaces with customers regarding packaging needs. The Product Technical Specialist also functions as the chemical resistance expert for Greif/Tri-Sure RDL steel drum linings and completes lab tests in support of new formulations, complaints, competitive linings or other initiatives. Additionally, this role will provide guidance to internal/external customers regarding technical capabilities of Greif’s packaging types. The ideal candidate will possess a good understanding of chemical compatibility, a background in coatings/polymers and expertise in dangerous goods regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Serves as packaging advice practitioner within Greif’s global program and provides advice to EMEA/APAC/LATAM regions.
- Maintains packaging advice database and packaging advice request system to log advices for future reference.
- Leads RDL program chemical resistance program and establishes customer-facing communication strategy for chemical resistance of Tri-Sure Linings.
- Is responsible for validating new Tri-Sure lining performance with respect to RDL program and evaluates competitive linings as needed.
- Conducts lab work in support of complaint investigations/customer requests related to linings failures, gasket incompatibility and other related packaging failures
- Acts as technical expert for drum performance characteristics/capabilities in support of packaging advice and/or customer complaint response
- Continuously learns about advancements in coatings, elastomer and plastic technologies to maintain expertise of properties, performance and compatibility.
- Interfaces with sales, operations and external customers regarding packaging questions, advices and complaint response.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
- Typically possesses a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and/or a minimum of 5+ years of relevant work experience, preferably in coatings or packaging.
- Experience in coatings and/or polymer chemistry
- Experience with dangerous goods packaging
- Experience working in a materials testing or coatings formulation laboratory
Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of dangerous goods regulations for packaging (ADR, UN, etc.)
- Understanding of compatibility profiles of common elastomers/polymers/plastics
- Ability to work in a coatings chemistry lab
- Travel may be required 10% or less
