Position Summary
The PowerBase administrator is responsible for leading and managing system protection databases associated with North America Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) Protection and Control (PRC) and NERC Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) compliance. This role serves as the point of contact with technology and vendors for database upgrades and implementations. This role will monitor and correct all database and application issues as they arise with all stakeholders.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
Directly or through others, the incumbent:
- Maintains and develops compliance databases containing NERC documentation and evidence to ensure they are accurate and available for regulatory audits.
- Participates in regulatory audit preparation activities to ensure potential non-compliance issues are identified and corrected in all compliance databases.
- Implements processes, controls, and technology tools for achieving and sustaining compliance with all applicable NERC standard requirements.
- Consults with and train operational personnel regarding compliance databases in order to maintain an environment of continuous improvement to operations and reliability.
- Oversees and manages system protection support website for maintenance and development purposes.
- Provides technical support to transmission operations and/or transmission in regards to protective system asset information and other data related issues.
- Participate in implementation of processes and procedures to comply with relevant NERC requirements and Oncor best practices.
- Participates in the application Development Process with vendors to ensure the company’s interest are addressed when new versions are proposed or released.
- Uses approved technology principles and adheres to business standards, practices and program/project requirements.
- Performs all essential aspects and functions of the job as well as any other specific job requirements.
Skills
- Demonstrated competency in using engineering computer software applications.
- Other competencies required include interpersonal skills, organization skills, and effective oral and written communication skills.
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent and 4+ years of experience in protective relaying design and application or related fields is required.
- An Associate's degree or Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Technology or similar field can be accepted with 3+ years of experience in protective relaying design and application or related fields.
- A proficient understanding of database structures and systems.
Measures of Success
- Meeting NERC compliance requirements affecting Transmission Field Operations, System Protection and Transmission Engineering.
- Improvement of processes to address NERC compliance requirements for all associated standards.
- Trainings to Transmission Field Operations, System Protection and Transmission Engineering to ensure they are well aware of responsibilities for meeting NERC compliance.
