The Role
Reporting to the Manager of Enterprise Data Systems, Belay is looking for someone who thinks in systems, communicates across boundaries, and gets things done with the tools available — not just the ones they already know. This is not a traditional software engineering role. It's a role for someone who can look at a messy operational problem, figure out what the data needs to do, and build a working solution using low-code and AI-assisted tools.
If you've ever untangled a broken process, built something useful without being told exactly how, or found yourself as the person who translates between the technical team and everyone else — this role was written for you.
Qualifications
- 1-3 years of experience
- Experience with python, sql, and data pipelines
- Experience with data transformation – unpacking json, structured vs unstructured data
- Experience with project management – being able to track and communicate/write daily accomplishments, to dos, etc
- Systems level thinker – an understanding of end-to-end architectural design
- Familiarity with the software development cycle
- Nice to have:
- Exposure to Palantir Foundry or similar low-code data platforms.
- Experience with LIMS, ELN, or lab or clinical data environments.
- Familiarity with HIPAA, CLIA, or regulated data requirements.
- Any background in life sciences, healthcare, or biotech — even academic.
- Experience with BI tools (Power BI, Looker, Tableau) or data visualization.
Responsibilities
- Configure and maintain data pipelines connecting our LIMS, CRM, and SaaS platforms into shared data environments — using low-code and AI-assisted tools, not necessarily hand-written code.
- Work directly with operations, clinical, and commercial teams to understand what data they need and build workflows that deliver it reliably.
- Identify where manual handoffs and process gaps are slowing things down, and fix them.
- Translate requirements from non-technical stakeholders into working technical solutions — and translate back clearly when constraints exist.
- Apply transformation and validation logic to keep data clean, traceable, and audit-ready.
- Monitor pipelines for accuracy and reliability; troubleshoot issues quickly and communicate status clearly.
- Document what you build — configurations, logic, and decisions — so the work is maintainable and understood by others.
- Grow into shaping data architecture decisions as the platform and your expertise expand.
Personal and Professional Characteristics
- Strong critical thinking and an instinct for structured problem-solving — you can break a complex problem into parts and work through it methodically.
- Comfort learning new tools fast — including AI-assisted development tools (Cursor, Copilot, Claude, etc.). You don't need to know every platform; you need to be able to figure it out.
- Ability to read, understand, and work with data structures, even without deep programming experience. Light Python or SQL exposure is a plus, not a requirement.
- Exceptional communication skills — written and verbal. You can explain a technical concept to someone who doesn't work in data, and you can hold your own in a room with engineers.
- Cross-functional instincts: you understand that your job is to make other people's work easier, and you approach collaboration with that in mind.
- Attention to detail and a bias toward accuracy, especially in regulated or compliance-adjacent environments.
- Ownership mentality — you follow through, flag problems early, and don't wait to be told what to do next.

What We Do
Belay Diagnostics provides next-gen sequencing to detect aneuploidy and mutations with our cerebrospinal fluid testing platform. Improving diagnosis for brain and spinal cord cancers can give people the best chance for a cure without the need for invasive biopsies. We see our technological advances in cerebrospinal fluid assays as offering clinicians alternative diagnostic tools for use in treatment decisions.
